Re: The CHAT thread
That reminds me of the other day at work. A colleague had said to me on messenger a funny comment about a phone conversation we could overhear another colleague having. I was working on a system that requires me to use capitals at the time and couldn't be bothered to switch caps off to reply to him so I looked for a smiley that nodded to show I agreed. I couldn't find one so I used one that clapped instead. This confused him so he sent back to me "don't get the clap" and then realised what he had said and added "good advice eh?"

Re: The CHAT thread
I do the exact same thing, Giraffe. Thing is that when I'm trying to do puzzles it's a constant
Give me another 20 years and I'll be
I also make bizarre faces when I put on mascara. I seem incapable of putting it on without raising one eyebrow and sticking my tongue out. Mind you, my daughter always sticks her tongue out when she's concentrating, and my husband grimaces when he's concentrating on complicated drumming rhythms. Funny thing about that is that people think he's SMILING at them in the audience. I wish I'd got a pound for every time someone's said "he's such a HAPPY man. He even smiles when he drums!"

Re: The CHAT thread
My biggest problem is that the rolly eyes smiley doesn't exist in other things, and I'd find it so useful! Because it's on here, I search for it with whatever else I'm using, and then get annoyed that it doesn't exist.

Re: The CHAT thread
OK men, look away now. It's a SHOPPING conversation.
Ladies, I'm concerned. What has happened to me? I think I'm finally turning into a GIRL. Yes, you heard me right!! I've been shopping more in the past week than in the past 3 months, and I've been BUYING CLOTHES!
I usually HATE this. I can never usually find things I like or which fit. I can never ever usually find shoes which fit (stupid wide feet!). And I NEVER have the urge to purchase accessories. Well, get this...I've bought:
A floaty cream cardigan to go with my dress I'm wearing on Thursday to my daughter's graduation thingy for her PGCE.
A necklace and matching earrings to go with a different dress.
A pair of SHOES - proper girly shoes with heels WHICH FIT!!
And wait for it....A HAT. A big floppy straw one with a speckly band round it.
Do I need treatment, do you think??
This is SO unlike me you would not believe!!

Re: The CHAT thread
No, I think it's a state of mind thing. It's happened to me on occasion before (I too hate the whole shopping malarkey). It's just that, if you're usually hopeless at finding nice things that fit you usually give up. BUT, if you happen to find one thing, then it does give you a bit more incentive, and you think, 'hey, this shopping stuff isn't as bad as I thought', therefore you are much more likely to find something else as well. Vicious circle, resulting in a bigger wardrobe, but a smaller bank balance!

Re: The CHAT thread
Well, that , of course, is the down side. But hey, we need to treat ourselves sometimes, don' t we?
And I think you're right about that, I think it was finding the cardigan which started the ball rolling. Mind you, WHEN am I going to wear a HAT?

Re: The CHAT thread
I recently had a depressing visit to a shoe shop. I went there because on a previous visit they had told me they did wide leg boots. (Without me asking, so I felt a bit offended, because she obviously had me in the Fat Leg grouping
) Anyway I went to look for some shoes to go with a dress, as my sandals are very flat basic and frumpy, thinking they would have wide fittings. I came out feeling like one of the ugly sisters trying to get into Cinderella's shoes. None of the shoes could I even get my foot in even in a size 8, which was the biggest they did.
So I went to Brantano, where they do huge shoes, and bought something rather clumpy looking, but at least the right colour for the dress.
I had to take F for an emergency visit to the shoe shop yesterday, when I discovered that he had gone completely through the sole of his school shoes (in 2 places on the one foot)
He had even gone through his sock!!

Re: The CHAT thread
well, I actually quite like hats, but only because they keep the rain off enough to mean I don't have to use umbrellas which I find really annoying.
Hats also keep the sun out of my eyes, but, living in Manchester, that's less of an issue
(and giraffe, I suspect the size of my feet is why I've never seen the fascination of them)

Would I laugh at you?Bunnylump wrote:Maybe I will!! But only if you promise not to laugh.
Poor Fernando, giraffe, fancy sending him out effectively in his bare feet!
And I hate shoe shopping too as I have rather odd shaped feet so I can rarely get anything comfortable.

I'm just amazed he hadn't noticed he had walked through his shoes.

Re: The CHAT thread
My husband has 3 pairs of shoes - trainers, brown shoes, black smart shoes. Because he's an engineer he virtually never wears a suit or smart shoes. Even though I think he looks sexy in a suit (maybe that's why he doesn't wear one, he's probably scared I'd jump him!!). Anyway, we were at a funeral the other week, so he had to wear his shoes. The trouble was that although they've only been worn about a dozen times, they are about 8 years old. Suddenly the entire sole fell off!! I can only assume that the glue had perished!
Well, I was pleasantly surprised with my shoes. They are Marks and Spencer wide fit. I wouldn't have thought to look there to be honest, but I really like them and they are very comfy. The other place which does wide shoes (which are comfortable too) believe it or not is Evans. I have had shoes and boots from there in the past.
And re hats: when I was young slim and pretty (hard to believe, I know, but it was true once long ago) I wore hats all the time and never thought twice about it. These days I suppose I feel conspicuous.

I bought a pair of M and S shoes and was actually half a size smaller than normal.

Re: The CHAT thread
OK, why do these sorts of things ALWAYS happen to ME?
For some unknown reason, the Connexions office was unable to get enough teachers to do all the visits to the year 10 work experience students. So I found myself being "volunteered". "Each visit should only take about 10 minutes," I was told, "You just ask the pupil and the supervisor how things are going and fill out a form". I can cope with that, I thought.
And what do you know, in the pet shop it was dealing with runaway rabbits, another place had changed names, so I had to randomly walk in and out of hairdressing salons until I found which one it was, in another one the pupil had spent the week working in the wrong branch,
in another, the supervisor was concerned because the girl had been "dancing provokatively" in front of male clients,
and in another, the pupil was accused of having stolen some money!!
Thank goodness for the one restaurant where everything was going fine and they offered me a cup of tea!!
Hey ho. All in a day's work.
