Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I will. One of the funniest things I've seen that he made was a device for his car (about 20 years ago, long before variable speed windscreen wipers were available) was a car windscreen wiper timer. Basically, once it was on, it timed how long it was before you pressed the switch again to make the wipers work. Then it would make them move at that time again, and you could time it anything between 3 seconds and 5 minutes. It was quite amusing if you'd used the 5 minute setting and forgot to turn it off. You'd come back to the car to find a group of people staring at it, saying things like "No, honestly, just watch. It'll do it in a minute!!"
You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

I love the idea of wipers that seemed to randomly work without human intervention!
Today I have mostly been doing not very much although we did visit a local great barn which dates from 1388. We have been meaning to visit for years and actually managed to remember on one of it's open days. It is in brilliant condition considering how old it is.
And the reason I have been doing not very much today is that yesterday I was mostly drinking wine - all day
- at the wedding of the daughter of some very good friends. We met them about 6 weeks before she was born and I first saw her in hospital when she was about 2 days old so it was lovely to watch her get married yesterday.
And my daughter spent most of the day fighting back the tears - she cries at anything emotional, doesn't even need eg to see ET, just think about it!!. Mind you the groom was in tears himself at one point, he was so choked up to be marrying Lydia.

Aw - what a lovely day that must have been! I haven't been to a wedding for ages. It just seems to be funerals for me just now.
And I like the idea of the great barn. I enjoy interesting buildings hugely.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Well, as of last Friday I'm on holiday for the summer. So obviously, I spent all day Monday teaching piano lessons, and making sandwiches for 24 hungry Brownies.
Tuesday morning was spent doing my grandma's cleaning, then on Tuesday afternoon, I went into one of the schools I teach at, to help them organise their filing system. (They have one female member of staff, who despairs with the four male teachers and their total inability to put things back where they found them).
Yesterday, I spent the day at my sisters, doing more gardening, but there are now actually some flowers, in a flower bed, which is a separate entity to the lawn. This is huge progress.
Today, I did four different sets of accounts.
Roll on September, when I can go back to school and have a rest!!!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I've spent all of my holiday so far hospital visiting and cleaning up cat poo. Oh the joys.

The Royal Infirmary in glasgow has/had cats, when I trained there.. You could travel from the old builing(over 100 years) to the new building via "the ducts" which was the basement - and the cats were there to keep the mice at bay!

Actually, the nursing home where my husband's dad was had a cat. The patients loved it.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
there used to be some cats in the basement at my work (Manchester Town Hall), but they were got rid of some years ago as a danger to the staff (mind you, given the granite spiral staircases, I wouldn't like to try to avoid a cat in a hurry on one, so I'm not surprised), however, we now have a mice problem...

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Oh and today I've mostly bin (apart from hospital visiting and looking after / clearing up after animals) buying new tyres and getting the tracking fixed. Flipping heck that was an expensive exercise!
Anyway, due to lack of time, while they did that I walked into town to try to get swimming costumes for everyone for our holiday (just in case we actually get to go). And you'll be pleased to hear that you can't get them now. Clearly it's not summer any more.
Oh well, looks like we'll be skinny dipping!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I always think it is crazy when shops stop selling clothes just when the seaon for wearing them arrives.
Hope you do get to go on the holiday and enjoy the skinny dipping. It's much nicer than wearing a costume anyway.
I got told today I had a pay rise and an annual performance bonus so I eagerly opened my payslip to see what I would get to take home this month - £25.60!
The payroll company had made a mistake and put my new monthly pay in as if it was an advance so it got deducted from the amount payable.
So it's bread and water in our house for the next month!
At least I managed not to crash the car driving home from the supermarket (with this week's loaf of bread
) and simultaneously trying to watch the Red Arrows flying over me.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Today, I've mostly bin working my way through The Snark, with much very kind and patient help from Gill and LAT, but also helped along by a very bizarre combination of cider, tea, and Yorkshire mixtures. I'm not sure if this combination has been tried before, but I seem to be feeling rather calm (tea), very fast at typing (Yorkshire mixtures), and slightly giddy (cider). I think I may have invented a new magic potion!!!
