But then, having tried to murder him and not quite succeeded, she's now expecting him to redecorate I think...

Oh, and BTW, if Scurra's OFFERING...shall I appear with all the various computers that don't work properly in this house too? :D I could bring a barrowload of them for him...

Maybe we should set up a barter system on PB. Scurra, you fix our computers and we'll fix your, um...air conditioning?? Sadly I have no skills to offer. :( I could sew buttons on...or shell peas or something...

Meeting some very strange individuals at the British Library.

It was really quite odd. One seemed to have magical powers, and a complete supply of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, and another one seemed to find it hysterically funny when he was changed into a rabbit (he IS laughing, NOT being sick!)

The rabbit - man was then further humiliated by having to have his bag searched as he entered the library and having to explain away the presence of white and pink fluffy ears. Which seemed to make the life sized purple rabbit behind him collapse in a heap of hysteria...

Well, it was actually supposed to be a "management meeting" with a couple of hangers-on (LAT and me). But we did manage to have quite a laugh as well...

Still enjoying the every flavour beans! :D
Haven't found the sushi flavour ones though. :(
And perhaps I should be looking for the cough medicine ones, although some didn't taste far off. :?

She turned him into a pigeon. We saw him flapping round the coffee shop at Euston.

....to a concert organised by the exam board for people that got distinction in their exams, Kingsley was playing sax. I realised while she was playing that it's the first time I've heard the piece with the piano accompaniment, even though it's one she did for her grade 7 in July! I never get to hear the finished article :( I also hadn't realised quite how long it is. I get a bit nervous when she performs, although I'm not as bad as I used to be, and I tend to hold my breath, so I was slowly turning purple!

Now that's a dreadful thought....a purple giraffe as well as a purple rabbit.

I think it sounds fetching, Giraffe. I know exactly what you mean about the holding the breath thing. I used to do that whenever my daughter was performing. She hardly plays the piano at all now- too busy being a teacher. I also used to hold my breath whilst watching basketball trials and plays!

It was worst when she was little. I remember speech day at her primary school they kept asking her to play the piano, and it completely ruined the event for me, as I spent the whole thing as a complete bag of nerves in case her piece went wrong and she was upset. The third consecutive year she was asked to play I said that perhaps someone else should play as she had done it for two years and it wasn't fair. So they asked Fernando instead! And watching him play was always like watching a train crash, you knew a big disaster was about to happen, it was just a question of when.

Am trying to let me son make his own mistakes - it is so hard. He is mucking up 6th form but says the only thing important to him is his girlfriend/x girlfriend actually. He wasn't trying v hard before though. I think I need to let him leave and work out what he is going to do with no money and no internet. Perhaps it will be the making of him!! Any advice or experience would be great from you experienced ones. He has already dropped one of his as levels and is now only doing the 3 sciences which limits his choices if he wants to go to uni.

Sorry, my son did no work at all in the 6th form (having got a startling set of GCSEs, including 5 A*) and it didn't matter what I did or said I couldn't get him to do any. He got his come uppance when he missed getting into his chosen degree by 2 marks though. I kept getting phone calls and letters from the head of the 6th form telling me he kept being late in the morning too. Quite what she expected me to do to get a 6 foot 4 oik out of bed when he didn't want to I'm not sure...

The thing is I can't criticise. I did NOTHING in the 6th form - I wasn't there for most of it, and hadn't even read most of the books I was supposed to have studied for English, yet still managed to scrape a pass. If I'm honest he was probably less of a nightmare teenager than I was.

I meant to say, the other day I went to see MADE IN DAGENHAM at the pictures. It was pretty much "easy, breezy" watching, and some of the acting was quite good. I particularly enjoyed Miranda Richardson as Barbara Castle - even if the role she is playing is nothing like what happened (as far as I remember, anyway). John Sessions as a ridiculous, bumbling Harold Wilson was pretty much just plain daft. I had been told (by a work colleague) that it was "inspirational" and would make me feel "more militant" (is this possible?? ) but I wouldn't agree with that assessment. Still, it passed the time. :D
