And I see the cousin who lives in Australia more often than the cousin who lives in Huddersfield (20 mins away)

I'm going to be bunny dodging later. :D

This morning I got an email from our bunny from a different address. For those who know her true name put her initial in front of her surname and just look at what you get. I dont think Scurra will let this one past him

And big thanks to the other person, who has a space in her puzzle message in the wrong place. That has had me creased. No wonder she cant find the answer.

This morning (and for a few days) there was a grinding noise from the back of my car when I braked. It was really loud this morning (no longer able to pretend I was imagining things) so I took it to a garage and they said it probably wasn't safe to drive, but they couldn't do it today. My husband is in Scotland this week, so I really need the car, so I drove very carefully to kwikfit, who told me I had worn through the brake pads so there were no rear brakes  and started to wear down the disks. So I spent the next two hours sat on the world's most uncomfortable chair and then was relieved of a little over £300 for the pleasure! Then they told me that the front ones will need doing fairly soon too. I'd better start saving up. :(

 Not good. Still at least the rear brakes are sorted and you can still drive.

Yes at one point I had it booked in with the first garage for Tuesday, which was clearly far from ideal. I'm just glad the brakes didn't fail completely and leave me wrapped round a tree.

As her twin - I can balance that one with my commonly called first name, and the initial of my surname ;) One of the options offered by certain 'generate suggested user name' screens.

If you think that's bad, when I was at my old job they used my initial, followed by my surname, and then my initial again (without a gap) then an underscore, then my surname again... Think about it with my name... My manager thought it was very appropriate...

Oh, and Giraffe - I did a really stupid thing with my last car. The salesman who'd sold it to me was an idiot and told me, when I asked, that it DIDN'T have ABS and it DIDN'T have an alarm. So when I did an emergency stop, and the car did this weird juddering scrawnching thing I assumed my brakes had gone through like yours. So I spent the next day (which was as soon as I could get to book in at the garage) driving at about 15mph. The garage told me there wasn't a problem with the brakes, it was just the ABS working. THEN I tried to open the bonnet to check the water and oil when I had locked the car door. The car started hooting at me. I was so shocked I didn't know what to do (since I didn't think it had an alarm) and was running round like a headless chicken trying to get neighbours to stop my car from shouting at me...

You can't get me anyway. I'm properly poorly now. Confirmed.

I've just swallowed 8 steroids all in one go with the same everyday for the next week :? NOW I might start to get better  I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. If anyone sneezes around you run away fast as you can.

To be honest I'm not sure they are going to help. One of side effects ( there are numerous) is that they can worsen infections- which is why I've got them in the first place!!!

The possible mental health issues made me laugh. How would anyone know? I'm daft to start with. :D

Take care, Gill - sorry to find that it has developed into a real stinker :(
Have you tried the hot rum toddy yet? Never mind not mixing alcohol and medicine - at least it guarantees sending you to sleep, which is as good a cure as any!

I've just said this in a PM to Brian who suggested whisky toddy's. The doctor asked me if I wanted anything else while I was there (like I haven't got enough already!) so I said a bottle of whisky to replace the one I've drunk. She laughed- and then said they used to be able to prescribe whisky but not anymore  And if it made me feel any better just to carry on. What happened to pickled liver?

I think perhaps you're meant to carry on until you've got rid of the cold, and then stop. It's one of those get out clauses, isn't it? "Yes, but the doctor said....."

On a serious note, have you tried taking Ecinacea?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/6231190.stm

My daughter swears by it - now she's a primary school teacher she's in for everything with all those 8 year olds full of snot. She does still get colds but they never last longer than a day or so, whereas some of her colleagues have been coughing and spluttering for weeks with the same one. You can get it quite cheaply in Tesco.

On Antiques Roadshow this week a doctor said that champagne used to be perscribed, personally I would rather have the whisky.

Today I've been chasing pheasants at Fountain's Abbey. It was really quite impressive - what should have been gentle streams could have been used for white-water rafting, and a few of the paths were closed off because they were completely flooded. We all got rather soggy, but it's a lovely place for a day out.

I went there ages ago, and yes, I agree, it is lovely there. Lucky girl. :D I've spent the entire day doing exam access applications.

I know this is nothing to do with what I've been doing today, but I'm just sending my son a postcard, which made me laugh. It is entitled "Musicals we've never seen".

1. ...about the French Calamity Joan (with a pic of Joan of Arc)
2. ...by Robert Burns My Fair Laddie
3. ...about mobile phones Singin in the Train
4. ...about a Greek poet making tree preservation regulations Oak Law Homer.

 Well it made me laugh anyway...
