This afternoon my oven blew up. Tomorrow I'm going to London for the weekend, leaving my Mum in charge of the kids. I try to leave her easy meals that just need to be put in the oven, as she's useless with modern appliances. Now I've got to rethink my meal plans and think of things that can be cooked on the hob.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Oh how annoying.
And even more annoying is the fact that at my Mum's there is a cooker sitting doing nothing which has been used about twice.
My computer died yesterday. So please don't anyone send me e mails, because I won't see them!! (Work e mail still ok). I KNEW I should have taken my computer up to Scurra in a wheelbarrow...

Well where we are actually staying isn't much more than 20 miles from France.
Today we drove down to Dungeness. We didn't even dare open the car doors though as we might not have got them closed again, it was so wet and windy. We wanted to visit Dover Castle but that was closed due to high winds so instead we went to have lunch at a pub in St Margaret's Bay. After that we let ourselves be own along the bay watching the gulls being swept away and huge chunks of foam carried around on the wind. Then totally cold and wet we drove up to Pegwell Bay to try to find the viewpoint for the Dyce painting and then to Sandwich where we wandered around trying to get dry again.
We may try Dover Castle again tomorrow if it is less windy.
edit - oh dear what a pain Giraffe!
Just what I imagine you didn't need.
and sorry to hear about the sad demise of your computer Bunnylump. That's a nuisance for you. Your Mum didn't have a brand new computer too did she?

...Visiting the dippy-hippy contingent in Wiltshire. Not keen on being cooped up in a canal boat, and having to get on it by walking across a muddy, slippery plank...
Once again had an overwhelming urge to snip of the chap's dreadlocks every time he turned his back towards me...
but managed to resist...JUST! I mean, a 40 year old with a bald head and dreadlocks? - (he also had on a "rainbow" jumper with holes in, plus socks and sandals
). What he thinks he looks like goodness knows!
Maybe the over zealous application of colitas (see member's games!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
we had a chap like that in the Surveyor's section here at the Council. dreadlocks and bald... (well, seriously greying, and slightly bald, anyway - dreadlocks were extensions). The powers that be decided to outsource all the surveyors (don't get me into what a expensive mess that is), and I think he realised that a private company probably wouldn't appreciate the look so he's had his hair sorted. Looks much better - mind you it now takes me a good 5 secs to recognise him!Bunnylump wrote:...Visiting the dippy-hippy contingent in Wiltshire. Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I suppose it's only like women being "mutton dressed as lamb" though. So it's probably time for me to get a blue rinse and a perm instead of having copper lowlights and blonde highlights, and perhaps I should be investing in a tweed skirt instead of jeans, I suppose!
(And no, that's NOT going to happen, I think I'd rather put up with being "mutton". I wonder if that makes Scurra appreciate me more anyway ...??
)

I'm quite glad I didn't decide to check up on my son from there then.
We didn't visit the memorial tricia. We want to go back to see some of the places we missed, so hopefully we might manage it then.
Nice pub isn't it?

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Back from London, we had a good weekend, still a bit shattered from Friday night.
Children have survived the weekend without us, even though we thought we had lost Grandma on Friday, shortly before she was due to pick them up from the bus stop. I had visions of them standing in the dark three miles from home and no way to get home.
All was well and she turned up eventually.

... at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, for my Dad's (slightly selfish) fathers' day present, to see Ruthie Henshall - Sounds of Hollywood. Fantastic singers, fantastic band, a couple of very funny unscripted moments (like when her shoe fell off as one of the other dancers was lifting her, and completely in character she hobbled across the stage to get it) and a really good venue. Lots of space to sit and walk around outside the theatre and in the lounge areas, comfy seats with leg-room, no queues for the toilets etc. And some really brilliant music (which will be going round my head until something else comes along to take it's place).

I've been to see a production of The Wind in the Willows. It was an amateur production but was nevertheless very good.

We've been fostering a kitten over the weekend because our vet needs to clear the cages for sick animals. She is so cute!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Just had the oven on full blast for half an hour and it seems to be working fine. So now I don't know what to do. On Thursday every time I turned it on it tripped all the electrics out in the whole house, but today it seems to be behaving itself. Do I trust it? Is it going to go pouf just as I try to cook Christmas lunch? I think I'll try using it for a few days and see what happens. I'll just have to keep some beans on toast handy in case of emergencies.
First prize in the raffle on Friday night was a very fancy range cooker. One of OH's guests won it!

Picked up my reading glasses today from the optician. I feel like an old fogey having to remember to swap galsses every time I stand up. (And if I leave them on I feel really dizzy walking or turning my head in them) On the plus side I should be able to see the puzzles better.
