Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Realising just how easy it is to find me on the internet! I don't know what made me do this, but I decided to see what would come up if I typed my name into Google. Crikey, straight away it comes up with a site which has extracted my name and address from the electoral role, and it's linked to my facebook image!
That is TRULY scary.

Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
If I were YOU, Scurra, I wouldn't by choice pick a fight with someone who's about 8 foot 10...
(but if you choose to, then can you let me know in advance so that I can get my video camera out first??)

.......Trying to do some Christmas shopping.
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
.... battling against a croaky voice, which wasn't helped by the Brownie disco! You could set your clock by me. The week before all the Christmas concerts is always when my voice decides to disappear!

All the shouting you've been doing over the last couple of weeks trying to lick them into shape?
Hope it doesn't get too bad and you feel better soon

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I have virtually no voice either!! So I was somewhat restricted at our departmental dinner tonight (just got back). So I contented myself with deconstructing all the Christmas crackers and making them into a giant sculpture in the middle of the table instead...
The drive back was interesting in the fog and ice, and because we were at a pub in the middle of nowhere down lanes it was really spooky!

Crikey, that sounds interesting! I'm not sure I would want to be driving in that.
The most difficult thing I've ever done with no voice is to try to run a choir rehearsal. With 10 and 11 year olds, they generally aren't good enough at reading the music to be able to work it out, and it's very very hard to teach them any other way than 'listen and sing this back'. Lip-reading while listening to the piano play the notes just does not work the same way!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
... chopping up ice with my spade. There was a bit across the road at the top of the drive I didn't have the strength to clear at the weekend. We did put salt down, though, and I was surprised how easy to get up most of it was. At least now I have a clear path to the road, where the car tyre tracks are also clear, so for the most part I can avoid the sheets of ice that pose as pavements.
I have to venture out this afternoon and am thinking of risking a route through the churchyard, on the basis that the snow on the grassy bits wont be so slippy. I'm such a wuss when it comes to ice.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
...to see my daughter's class' Christmas performance. They did really well, bless them. It was all based on the idea of a Tudor Christmas, she had them "Wassailing", selling gingerbread and pretend hog roast, and even managed to get them to sing a pretty complicated round. All the kids were dressed up (several jesters - Scurra would have blended in nicely). You tend to forget that 8 year olds are quite sweet when you're used to dealing with 'orrible 16 year olds...
Bet they'll be horrid tomorrow though, they couldn't have got to bed until about 9 30 and they have another performance tomorrow night...

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
......to a Christmas concert at the Girls' school. K had quite a few solos in the jazz band, some of which she was sightreading as the other tenor sax was poorly. She did really well and Lally was playing her bassoon in the junior wind band. She coped fine, which was a relief as she has only been playing a couple of months and I was slightly worried that they had thrown her in the deep end. The violinists in junior strings sounded like a cats' chorus, but that is par for the course. Tomorrow I'm back for part two of the concert, Jazz band again, senior wind and senior choirs and strings.
