Had a disastrous day = very busy then on the way home ran out of petrol, had to flag down a taxi to take me to the garrage - he was a bit of a grump and would not wait. Phone another one who took me back to the car and helped me put the petrol in! But I was actually freezing.

Wondering why I've just agreed to the kitchen planner coming this Friday, agreeing to go ahead Jan/Feb and having a whole house rewire in advance

OO er. That sounds, um FUN, Gill! And Tricia, sounds like you've had a bit of a rubbish day. Nice glass of wine needed I think!

What a miserable day Tricia! I agree with Bunny's suggestion.
We're contemplating a new kitchen Gill - but not till January definitely!!

Had an email today from a customer who was confused as they had ordered our wall cupboard unit and had screwed it to the wall but now had a problem because the handles were at the top of the unit rather than the bottom (as in our brochure) and because it was on the wall they couldn't reach the handles to open it, and what should they do. We have had to suggest that perhaps they have screwed it to the wall upside down. This did make me laugh:)

I just woke up my husband when reading that. I was laughing too hard!
One of the nice traditions we have is that after Thanksgiving dinner we put up the tree. I've had petty lights in the house since the end of November. It comes down on Epiphany, and since it is a lovely live tree, It stays nice and fresh all through the holiday season. Gifts minus two are all bought because I do it throughout the first semester when I have time. There's never enough of that near to Christmas is there?
But mostly, I've been reading all the posts I've missed out on over the past year....you all chatter a lot!

... cleaning the oven. Yuk.
Well, OK, that's a lie, because I've spent more time on here, but it feels like it!

I like to work on the principle that all that heat kills the germs nicely...

I clean the top bit and the grill, but as for the rest, that's a VERY rare occurrence.

I'm refusing to do that hateful job. New kitchen, new oven in the new year.

You're supposed to clean the oven?!

Well you can pay other people to come and do it for you sometimes (the best £40 I ever spent!)

Snap.
Mind you, I reckon that's why our gas oven no longer reaches the top temperatures (which doesn't really matter unless you are trying to cook Toad in the Hole). But as Gill says, New Year, New Kitchen, New Oven! (well, probably not, but I can always hope!)

Ah, now I have a neat trick there. I whinge to my husband (who, as part of his job, has to have all the paperwork and qualifications to do gas fitting too) and he ends up cleaning out the gas jets for me...

He does have SOME uses...

He also fitted our kitchen, our bathroom and the whole house's plumbing system- has to do plumbing for his job too - rewired the house- has to do electrical fitting in his job, and installed the boiler and heating system. Oh, he also had to do wall knocking down and carpentry (which ISN'T in his job but I made him do it anyway...

)

Think I'd enjoy doing the wall-knocking down myself!

That part was quite good (after I'd got over the initial horror when the bricks above started to collapse (I thought the house was going to fall down). We had done it all properly with accro props but this is an old house with mortar like sand. So we rushed out and got car jacks to hold the house up while we put the lintel in!!
The actual demolition bit after that was EXTREMELY pleasurable though. I could happily do that for a living.

I LIKE building (have even done some bricklaying in the past) but LOVE demolishing!!
