Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
We've been having to wrap the padlock on the shed in a microwaved plate warmer to defrost it enough to get the snow shovel out!

Wow Giraffe - these stories are getting more bizarre every day
And Eirian - just make sure you've got your shovels and de-icer with you.... hopefully the motorways will be ok. just think of that sizzling hot turkey waiting when you get here At the moment the forecast for down here in glorious Devon is for sunshine and warmer temperatures - didn't we tell you we thought it was a good move to come here?

hang on, you think sizzling hot turkey is going to encourage me? Now, if you were to have made me some Rum Torte that'll get me to get the shovel out!

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
Yesterday the lock on the car doors opened no problem, but the doors had sealed themselves shut with ice. I'm not a 10 stone weakling by any stretch of the imagination and my combined strength/weight wasn't enough to prise them open. I decided to stop before I pulled the rubber seals off and wait for some higher temperatures in the daytime before trying again. Then, what with the snowyconditions (well, really the big problem is the ice) I thought better of going out at all, until I was deprived of that solution by my dad with his 4X4.
Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
My mum phoned this morning and said that if we still want her to come I'll have to go and fetch her. At least it's only 50 miles away, rather than the nearly 250 it would have been to fetch M-in L, but it puts me in a dilemma. If I don't go she'll be on her own for Christmas, and I'll look like I don't want to see her. I told her we'd wait to see what the weather is doing nearer the time.

Ooh thats a hard call. Just wait and see how the weather goes.
We had a giggling fit in the car earlier - my friend took me to the bank and it was a puzzle car. First we had to work out how to get into it - then we had to work out how to get the doors closed - because of ICE.
As I type this - Ive just discovered my heating is broke again. It's registering -12 in the back garden thermometer.

The plate warmers are gel filled things you put in the microwave for a minute. I've never found them much good for warming plates, but they make really good hand warmers and padlock defrosters.Wulfruna wrote:Wow Giraffe - these stories are getting more bizarre every day

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
Can I just say AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!
We've had the added joy of a POWER CUT today - started around 10 am and only just (4 30) come back on. It means our central heating doesn't work.
Still can't get up or down our hill, so decided to walk to Sainsbury's (especially since the old lady next door is starting to run out of food). Got to Sainsbury's to find that they had no vegetables, no Christmas cake decorations, no mince pies etc. So ended up buying a load of other rubbish, which was then stupidly heavy to carry back, and had to stop every 50 paces to rest my arms.
Oh, and it's snowing again.
So AAARRRRGGGHHH. It's definitely Christmas.

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
No snow here just thick ice left from the snow 3 weeks ago - the roads are OK , but the pavements are lethal. We also have freezing fog - the trees look beautiful when the sun comes out , they look as though they are covered in blossom.
Some kids came to the door tonight and asked if they could grit our path and stairs For £5, we said no thanks so they went off to our neighbours..no doubt they will get some takers. Definitely Alan Sugar's next apprentice

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
Just seen a weather report for tonight. Basicly it said a big snow cloud would sit over our house and dump 5 to 10 inches of snow overnight on top of what fell Saturday and yesterday.

I take it that might mean you will not be able to pick up your mother. What a difficult time you are having
Bet the kids are loving the snow

Well I had decided that if the weather got no worse I would get her Friday and take her back Sunday. Maybe this forecast will be as wrong as all the others this week have been so far.

Been snowing since last night here, although it is a bit lighter just now. OH hasn't attempted to reach his office, which is about halfway to you Kathlyn as snow sounds bad there too.

The white stuff is back with a vengeance. We've had about 3 inches today and its still going. Our street is well and truly blocked by 3 vehicles that are stuck and there is no shifting them.

Sigur was stuck in a car park for 25 mins as all the exits were uphill... good job there was a butchers shop close by with a shovel...

It snowed for about 4 hours this morning. Now it's very cold, damp and getting foggy - yuk

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
We had heavy snow from 7.30 for about 3 hours this morning, and now thick fog. It took me 45 mins to do the last 3 miles home this morning.
