.....oscillating between being excited and somewhat scared. I've just been told I have to go to Japan on business at the end of the month!
It's a great opportunity for me to boost my profile within the company, but I do need to achieve what is expected of me. I am trying to get my head round it - if I can get it to stop spinning that is.

Well done Lat - you can do it. :D

That sounds like a fantastic opportunity LAT. They wouldn't have asked to to do it if they didn't have faith in you, you just need to believe in yourself now. Good luck. :D

That's brilliant LAT, well done and have faith in yourself. I know I do in you.

Just make sure that you are given enough time to make a bit of (supervised) exploration. For example, my trip to Singapore for work (for which I was really excited as it's one of the places that fascinates me most) led me to discover that there are palm trees up the central reservation of the "motorway" between the city and the port. That was it. Don't let them schedule you too tightly!

Now THAT sounds like good advice. Make sure you have YOU time and get to know the people there beforehand. [Email / phone are both good]. Then you won't be expected to be working all the time.

Visiting the hypocaust and the cathedral in St Albans, then having lunch. Nice, even despite the rain! :D

Well done LAT - what a great chance to get somewhere really exciting and different. Don't be nervous about doing your stuff ok - that's why they know they can send you.. :D
I agree about trying to make sure you have time to see something of the place. See if you can schedule in an extra day at the end of the trip before having to get the flight back. It's also good to find out a bit about local customs and practice - not to mention the food! Hope you like sushi.....

My husband spent a year in Japan and I'm sure he never ate sushi. (He's a fusspot when it comes to food!)

Have a great time LAT. :D

But I do like sushi! :D I think that is one of the things my family are most jealous about.
Thanks all for your kind comments. I really appreciate the support! :D
I have to help the office out there set up good reconciliation systems for stock control, credit card receipts, forecasting and statistics. Mostly this is stuff I do on a regular basis but it is one thing to do a job from day-to-day and another to persuade someone else of the need to do so, and help them to get it all working smoothly. I think I have a lot of preparation to do both on the work front and the cultural aspects. And my immediate boss will have fun while I'm away, I don't think he has done a month end without my help for nearly 10 years now!! I could have a big backlog to come back to.

and today I've mostly been.....contending with powercuts. Well 2 of them but luckily not for too long although we did end up having supper very late. C'est la vie!

Me too, I love sushi! (Can I come too??)

The most exciting trip I have to look forward to is to a synagogue on the 24th for a holocaust memorial day. What fun. :|

You are going to be fine LAT, it's what you do everyday. :D Your boss is going to miss you, isn't he? I hope he has to deal with the backlog of work!

Shall I pack you in my hand luggage - and then sneak you out when I'm on the plane? :D It would be fun to have you along.

You'd have to have pretty big hand luggage...

I think you should tell your boss he mustn't leave you with work to come back to. That's really unfair!

I envy you LAT. Lucky girl!

Make sure you set aside time to do a bit of sight seeing. I made the mistake of staying in the hotels and playing with toys and boys when I went. When we got back I looked at all the photos Matt and the bug took and kept asking where was that? Was I there?

Make the boss do a bit of work while you're gone too. It probably won't hurt him. Tell him the jet lag will last for at least 2 weeks upon your return so he may as well do it if he wants it done....not that that idea worked for me

...opening a Christmas present. I won't tell you who sent it (you know who you are) but I will tell you its title.

The 2011 Calendar of BUNNY SUICIDES.

Well, all I can say is if that's what I get from my friends, what should I expect from my ENEMIES??

Actually, it's really funny..
