You're too soft Bunny and they know it. Its not right that you don't get paid and because you are working with children it is a bit like emotional blackmail. I think under employment you are entitled to be paid or get the time back

Today I have spent working and feeling sorry for myself as I have a streaming cold. But as it is my birthday my sister bought a botttle of champagne and we plan to enjoy it. Funnily though all my birthday card this year are pink! It is not as though people collaboratedas they have come from different parts of the world. I have received some book tokens so an appointment with Waterstone's is in order and my sister has bought me an electronic crossword solver which will prove most useful with future issues of PB

Stay calm Bunny

I know, I know. I'm too much of a soft touch. The thing is that if I DON'T do it, the kids will suffer. And that's not something I could live with. I must learn to be a bit more MEAN.

Such a shame to have a cold on your birthday, Tricia. Poor you. :( Still hope you manage to have a nice evening though! And as for lots of pink cards - they obviously think you're very girly! I always seem to end up with lots of RUDE cards. All I can say is my friends are obviously very bad judges...being as how I'm so sweet and angelic...

Well, as a follow on from my big rant about having to work on my day off...I sent my boss an e mail when I finished work (at 6pm, having started at 8 30 and having had NO break except for when I had to deal with a girl having an epileptic fit in my office and a fire drill! ) which told her where everything was and how it all worked and said at the end:

"Please note that unless I am paid for the work I do I will no longer be having anything more to do with access arrangements. It doesn't appear on my job description, and frankly, if I wanted to do voluntary work I would do it for Save the Children instead. Please bring this up at your next line management meeting."

Can't wait to see what happens next... :!:

Anyway, in the evening I went out with my friends I've been trying to go out with for a Christmas meal but it got cancelled twice because of the weather. So that cheered me up! When we got home we let off the Chinese lanterns I had left over in my garden, and one got stuck, burning in next door's apple tree. Oops... This morning, after a ferocious storm, our fence has collapsed into her drive. Better go and grovel...
...mind you I think we might be still in her good books after OH went round last week to stop her kitchen flooding - the u tube was blocked, and the only way he could clear it was by sticking his ape arms down the filthy water and filching about in the grot...(yuk)

Well Done Bunny - they cannot expect you to work for nothing on your day off. I am sure its against employment law

are you going to tell us why you are grumpy giraffe? Or is it to do with the goods that aren't arriving?

 Yes, do tell WHY you're grumpy!! (Although I've just realised I probably should have put my big grump on the "whinge thread" but it needed to come out FAST.  )I'm finding it hard to imagine a grumpy giraffe...

Not sure. I've just been on a really short fuse all day. Been a weird week with the problems with the electrics and various other stresses and things I would normally let go have just set me off. Feeling a bit taken for granted by the rest of the giraffe herd.

edit: Is that how you spell weird it looks a bit wierd?

When I feel like that (most of the time these days) I go out for a "rapid stompy walk*" I find it really helps to either lift my mood, or tire me out sufficiently that I go to sleep!
*Rapid stompy walks even happen if it's peeing down if I'm REALLY grumpy.

Oh I know how that feels!

Hope they start appreciating you properly soon.

Today I went to a drinks party at a fellow forum member's house. Try explaining to complete strangers how you know the hostess! "I met her on the internet" sounds ever-so-slightly odd. :D

Oh Dear :(

Looks like we have a bunch of S.A.D puzzlers.... Sorry to hear you're feeling that way Giraffe - I'm sure they're not intending to take you for granted.
giraffe wrote:edit: Is that how you spell weird it looks a bit wierd?
Yes :D It's that classic rule "I before E except after C or where the word is weird"  No wonder I prefer maths to spelling (where rules work and can be logically transfered from one area to another).

As for my Bunny Sister... I don't like the idea of you off on 'Stompy Walks' (sounds lonely) but I fully agree with your rants and your email regarding work. Stay polite, logical, factual, and FIRM - they won't know how to handle you AND they'll be scared as well  ;)

I got an ipod for christmas which is great but i am not a great music listener and wanted it for podcasts which is great but have also discovered that our local library allows you to download audio books on to your ipod for free which i think is brilliant and thought i ought to pass it on.

Also if you have an ereader (not kindle) you can download ebooks for free too.

Just had to pass this on in case it is of interest to any of you.

I can now do the housework whilst listening to my latest download.
