What is there to do in...

#1 Post by Bunnylump » Sat Jan 15, 2011 11:44 pm

OK folks, so we've decided to go to Harrogate for the annual "girls' weekend" in April. I've never been there, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for nice things to do, places to visit or "must sees" in that general area?

Betty's tea Rooms, but be prepared to queue as they bring in coachloads at weekends.

A turkish bath in the Royal baths and spa

The park for a picnic if you get a good day.

Fountains abbey (monastic ruins estate & deer park) is about 10 miles from Harrogate.

Wetherspoons to have a cheap meal in nice surroundings

No 19 bar for live music at night. The jazz club and the Brasserie also have live music but probably not on a Saturday night.

Masham brewery (Black sheep brewery) is about 40mins drive out of Harrogate
Leeds is about 25 mins away and lots of buses - Harewood House is worth a look if you like stately homes.

Why Harrogate? I think of tweed skirts and wooly jumpers rather than a girly weekend. Nice shops, nice prices!

Thank you that's really helpful. :D My friend Rachel will be particularly pleased about the live music.

Because some of us wanted town, some wanted walking in the countryside / horseriding, I fancied Malham Cove and it wouldn't be out of the question to visit York, and finally because one of my other friends has been to a chiropody convention there and knows of a really nice hotel (which has a pool, jacuzzi, sauna etc.) Trust me, wherever we are we will have a real laugh and it WON'T be staid. Oh, and of course a lot of alcohol and chocolate will be consumed to counteract the healthy walks... We're going for the posh hotel this time because, sadly, we will all be "noughty" this year. :(
