Feel better now, Gill?
The season of goodwill strikes again - it's just a recipe for disaster, isn't it? Getting together with family AND snow AND Christmas. What joy.
I've given up hoping to get my useless brother and dad to get together to sort out the house / scatter ashes. Those pair can't organise a p up in a brewery. I've been asking them FOR THE PAST 3 MONTHS to organise ONE DAY when they can come and do that or go through stuff. Now there's snow they have an actual excuse. Before that they were just being USELESS.
So mum is STILL in the wardrobe and the house is
still full of junk which needs clearing out.

You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

I feel so much better actually.

Glad you're feeling better Gill.
But why do they turn into contortionists when they're cross?

OK I'm fuming. I've just had a phone call from my boss. It transpires that one of my staff, who has had flu, and has also been coping with a bereavement AND the news that her father in law has terminal cancer, has just had a stroppy letter from the head, saying the amount of time she's had off work is unacceptable.

What the fool doesn't realise is that she had worked loads of extra hours when I needed her for exams. Net result - she's gone to the doctor and got signed off for 10 days with stress. Flipping marvellous. I now have a person down for a school trip tomorrow AND not enough people to cover access arrangements for AS exams.
Bl**dy bureaucrats.

Make the head cover? At least on the exams.

Just tell him that because of his action you now have a problem - what is HE going to do to help you resolve it?

Send him on the school trip!

That would make him earn his keep.

Oh, I'm sure he'll have far more "important" things to do. Like winding up and pi****g off staff.

He's also sent one to an excellent English teacher who has had 2 days off following an acrimonious marriage break up. He'd better not try it with me: I'll remind him that I never took my week's compassionate leave I was owed.

The way I feel at the moment he's likely to get my resignation too. What he doesn't realise is that I've always been sensible enough to never rely on my wage. I've always used it as savings only. So if I want to walk out, I can. Quite a nice position to be in, actually.

And to be honest, the pleasure of seeing his face might be worth it.

dunno what it is with management. They all seem to be on one at the moment. It's as if they think that because the jobs situation is so delicate they can start throwing their weight around (presumably to show they are necessary) as no-one will have the guts to stand up to them in case they get fired.
One of ours (luckily not in our team) has banned anyone from having drinks except at set times (twice a day - apparently it takes too long to make them). Wouldn't bother me, but I think some of his team are getting caffiene withdrawal!

They'll be timing people on the loo next.

I worked with someone once who told me not to go to the loo in my lunchbreak, but to save it until I was being paid.

It was just natural for me to go while I was on my break, so that I wouldn't be wasting work time.

Bl**dy bureaucrats.

I never did think to ask - what exactly IS your job title? You seem to be running this damned school!
I'll tell you my 'return to work' interview after my nose operation some other time - and the contribution 'Human Resources' made to the conversation

what exactly IS your job title?
Mug, I think.

I know I'm not alone with this kind of nonsense. It just makes me rage.

Do you know, if I had any SKILLS (I don't) I'd far rather work for myself. I hate being told what to do by people who shouldn't be left in charge of tying their own shoelaces.

You're asking for a spanking again
You are one of the cleverest and most creative people I know, and you could probably do anything you put your mind to.
After saying that - having 'skills' and making the into a meaningful (or at least 'paying') job are two different things

Not sure that's the kind of career change Bunny's looking for
Not that it will help you, Bunny, but the best thing I ever did was to become self-employed. I dread being in a position where the work dries up and I have to go and work for someone else again.
It's worth thinking about, particularly if you can survive without earning anything while you set the business up.

Must admit, the best thing I ever did was hand my notice in at my last job without anything to go to. It was just too stressful a job. I went temping for a year or so until I got this position.
But then, Bunny, you need to ask yourself if the bad times at your job outweigh the good ones. In my job it was all bad, so the only decision was financial.
