Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Sounds like you had a great day Tricia. I went to Jamie Oliver's restaurant in Shepherd's Bush a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it. The Fifteen at Watergate Bay where we have eaten when on holiday in Cornwall is also wonderful.
Today I have walked several more miles. We started by going to a large temple and wandering through all the neighbouring alleys which were lined with food stalls and souvenir shops. Then we had lunch at a tempura restaurant - sitting on Tatami mats. Luckily for me most people don't kneel on them these days as I think I would have found it a strain if I couldn't tuck my legs to the side. Because you have to take your shoes off when you enter the restaurant there are special sandals to put on when you go to the loo there!
After that we went to Ropponghi which is a big shopping and entertainment complex. We wandered around for a while and then went up to the 52nd floor where there is an art gallery and observation deck with wonderful views over Tokyo. We walked round once before visiting the Art museum (exhibit of Odani Motohiko - very interesting if slightly modern stuff). When we came out of that it was getting dark and the lights below were coming on so we walked round again to admire the view. I actually saw Mount Fuji in the sunset!
Also the Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Tower all lit up at night.
We also had a quick drink and then went our separate ways. Coming back on the subway a Japanese woman started talking to me and asked me to come along to a recital the daughter of a friend was giving but I pleaded tiredness and came back to the hotel to rest my poor feet.
Now I've had some supper and I think I'll soon be ready for my bed again.

Sounds like you've had an interesting if not tiring weekend LAT - glad you've managed to see some of Japan on your trip there.
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Worried all last evening about my husband. I got a call from a policeman telling me Bernie had had an accident cycling home from work. He had hit a pothole in the road and had hurt his shoulder, and that he had been taken to hospital.
He has a broken collarbone and will be off work for several weeks. He is in agony and I don't want to go to bed in case he needs me!

Owww Pebbles - that's not good [although you staying awake is probably not the best plan]. I've done many things but I've never broken a bone yet, and I'd be just as happy to keep it that way,
Between the gang here we've probably got lots of experience in getting round practical problems - but in the meantime try and get some rest and don't worry..... and make sure he gets all the painkillers at the right times to let his body heal.
Take care.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Ouch! Send him a big hug from me, Pebbles! I think half the problem (being quite an expert on broken bones being the mother of David - who is bone breaking expert extraordinaire) is that your body has a huge JOLT. All the sinews and ligaments are twanged and the soft tissue is damaged. Once that settles down the actual BONE isn't too much of a problem pain-wise. And don't you go making yourself ill too - he needs you to be on top form!! So get some sleep!

Oh, sorry hear that pebbles. What a shock for both of you!
I hope the painkillers start to do their work and that you both get some much needed rest.

After a supper in the hotel which they seemed to call "Pot of " and which consisted of a large bowl of thin soup with some big chunks of vegetables and some mainly unidentifiable pieces of fatty meat I have been thinking longingly of a baked potato and cheese. Mind you the salad/starter was nice and the staff are all very pleasant.
Would also love someone to natter to. For someone as naturally garrulous as me, having no-one to talk to about this and that is hard.
My husband will probably be searching for the off switch after I get home!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Pebbles, insist that your husband takes his painkillers to start with. Men are so good at not wanting to go to the doctors, take drugs etc etc and not taking them when they really need them! And make sure he rests, however frustrated he may feel.
I've not had much problem with pain with my broken ankle. Collarbones are probably more tricky because it's much easier to jolt them when you're just moving around. I hope the pain settles down soon.
My cast came off today and I took my first steps - I mean I hobbled a bit - on my bad leg. It's not painful exactly - well, the heel is a bit but I think that's from being in a cast rather than being injured - but everything is very stiff and tight and I have no sense of balance on my bad foot. The worst thing was, when the doctor told me to lift up my bad leg and take a step, my brain couldn't remember how to do it!

Pebbles - ouchie!
Dramaticat has it right - make sure your DH takes his painkillers! It's not just men who don't take them 'oh, I don't want to be dependent on drugs' or some such excuse... Wish they'd realise that they aren't just there to help with the pain, but to help the injury get better as well!
And congrats on your release, Dramaticat! Must be really disconcerting after such a long time without freedom. Hope you get your balance back soon! Just don't over-do it looking after that DH of yours.
LAT - I'm sure you could talk to anyone you wanted to! Whether they'd understand you, of course, is a different matter

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I may yet end up chatting to someone whether they like it or not.
I come back on Saturday so have three more days at work here. It's not that they aren't really friendly, just that conversation is necessarily rather stilted.
Had a great evening yesterday though. The office manager invited me and two of his colleagues plus their wives for supper. We had make your own sushi with a wonderful array of fillings!
Plus a delicious chicken dish, soup, salad and then cake and strawberries for pud.
And they have a two-year old son who is really cute and very friendly. His favourite DVDs are Toy Story which he watches in English so he talks about Woody and Buzz
They told me that he got Toy Story 3 for Christmas and laughed when I said I did too (my daughter's present to me
)
I am certainly having a very memorable time out here.
Glad to hear there is progress Dramaticat. Hope the balance etc come back soon. I'll bet it's good to get the cast off though.

I'm now the possessor of a scrawny, hairy and scaly left calf! (Your leg gets very dried out in a cast, apparently.)
And what's more, because I can't get any long socks on, I can scare people with my scabby scar very easily

Be careful dramaticat!
A girl I worked with moons ago broke her lower leg. She went to get her cast off and came back with one on her other leg. She couldn't control the weakness in the leg she'd had the cast on and fell- and broke the other leg bone on the way down to the floor!!! Double poop or what
