:( That must be worrying for him in this climate.

Well there were six of them at the place where he works and they all had to reapply, but there were only three jobs. He worked advising small businesses on finance and business matters, so I suppose there is a chance one of the businesses might take him on, but not sure how realistic that is.

Oh, how depressing for him. I bet he feels doubly rejected.

I hope so, his wife only works part time, so she might be able to find some more hours, but I have a feeling her hours were reduced last year too.

Last day at work before half term :D :D I'll swear there was a time warp going on today. I had a day of paperwork (which I do because it needs doing but I HATE being in the office, I'd rather be with horrid kids). It felt like I was in there for about a week. I just don't know how you office bods can do that all day. By the time I got out I was like a demented thing!! Would you believe, the actual highlight of my day was when a year 11 turned up wanting help with his geography coursework during my "lunch break". It's a sad state of affairs when you'd rather spend your own (unpaid) time helping a Bengali speaker write about coastal erosion than do your actual job, isn't it?

Would he like a sample of fallen cliffs from Withernsea? Some photo's maybe? I'm all for helping out the next generation- but I can't until mid March.

:D Nice thought, and thanks for the offer, but it's based on a field study they did in Weymouth. If I'm not made redundant I might be going on that trip next year (it's for a week*). I really enjoy geography as a subject, and like working with year 11s but I'm slightly dubious about the rather lecherous head of Geography... :?

*Assuming that's no stopped too because of lack of funds... We had 6th formers going round local businesses today, trying to sell "advertising space" on the 6th form newsletter so that we can give awards for community service. The school can't afford them!

Then you really must come and stay with me in Withernsea when you have time. What has disappeared is incredible. My friend should have been recording this as she has a chalet (wood hut as opposed to the tin hut!) in the worst affected part. The locals are always happy to talk to you about the coastal erosion, and at Spurn Point (Head?) you can pick up fossils along the beach. Ask Fraggle. She has one -and she knows what to look for and how to break them open.

......in London
Went to the V & A again. There is so much amazing stuff there. You could visit every day for a fortnight and not see it all. :D
Then I met my sisters in a wine bar for supper. We have been going to the same place three times a year (once for each birthday) for many years now. And we almost always have the same meal there as we know we like it. This evening as we left the owner gave us a bottle of wine in recognition of the fact that we are long-standing customers. (which, of course, the sister whose birthday it is got to keep)

Walking around the house WITHOUT ANY CRUTCHES!

And I've managed to walk both up and down the stairs for the first time since my accident.

I haven't really ventured out into the big, wide world yet. I was supposed to try and walk down to the butchers with Ian this morning, but it's wet and when I walked down the front path to get in the car for rehearsals in the rain earlier this week, it was very slippy. I decided discretion was the better part of valour!

I go back to the hospital on Tuesday, when it will have been 3 weeks since I had the plaster off. I can't believe I've made such rapid progress.
Dear Mr Optimist, Mr Pessimist and Mr Realist, While you were arguing about the glass of water, I drank it! Yours sincerely, Mr Opportunist.

Well, it's snowed all morning here. I'm not impressed. I've had enough of that. I was planning on giving my car one of it's twice-yearly washes today. (Feb half-term and the summer holidays).

Congratulations on the lack of crutches Dramaticat. Hope it continues to get easier for you now.
