:o  Well, if that wasn't an insurance job, I don't know what was. We both said that the landlord was REALLY odd and seemed really miserable. And they were DEFINITELY trying to cut costs. We all thought it seemed likely that the place was about to go under.

....at a school concert that went on for over three hours. ZZZZzzzzzzzz. Lally's wind band didn't come on until 10pm, by which time they were struggling to stay awake backstage. Meanwhile somewhere else Ed's orchestra was also performing. I think perhaps I got the short straw!

Came home to find an email
I have pleasure in writing to confirm a place for Zoe in this year’s National Schools Symphony Orchestra
:o  Spot the typo!

........to Bristol (never been before, looked nice, strange bright blue taxi cabs and I was only there for an hour, so didn't see much of it!) to buy a bassoon. After all I'll need one for the orchestra.

I am going to have one very excited little elephant when she gets home from school.

I made some progress on the advent puzzles on the way there too, but need some shoves with some of them.

Well done Lally - you deserve it :D :D :D
I love the basson - the bass line is so crucial for supporting all of those over-blown instruments up above....

Does it make you want to polish it? Even though it's completely unnecessary??

That's how I was when I got a new flute!!

Lally, I'm SO jealous. I always wanted to learn the bassoon (my all time favourite orchestral instrument) but ended up being made to learn the double bass instead.

And Giraffe, congratulations on still being young enough to be in the National Schools Symphony Orchestra. And congratulations to the CORRECT recipient of the e mail. :D

I've bin trying to ignore the housework (and failing) but did manage a nice walk in the sunshine in Ashridge estate. Then came home and took the tortoise for a walk. Just don't ask.

It's about five feet long and the lowest of the woodwind instruments. (Well apart from the contrabassoon which is twice as long) Looks like a big brown drainpipe. I played as a child and Lally started in September.

You know the Ivor the Engine theme tune? That's a bassoon.

There was also a sitcom with Thora Hird about a funeral directors. The theme tune was bassoon.

congrats Lally! Enjoy that bassoon, one of my favourites as well.

today mostly bin discovering that work can continue pretty much as normal without internet/external emails... there was a flood in a junction box and most of the city centre lost connection (someone in BT is going to pay bigtime for that I suspect). Definitely means fun when it's quite this close to financial year end. My boss had two really big completions to effect today. One was ok - just involved me getting the tram down to Altrincham to deliver a document that would otherwise have gone by email, and a bit of creative faxing, but the other involved transferring quite a large sum of money, which couldn't be done by the usual office of people as they'd lost connection. Good job one of the managers was based elsewhere and still could do it.

But overall, the lack of emails just meant some creative thinking was required and 'old fashioned' methods being used (fax/my tram trip), and both jobs reached their natural conclusion (one completed, the other as much completed as was ever going to be possible). Just hope it's all back working again on Monday!

Best of luck on that eirian. We haven't had Internet at home now for nearly 4 weeks so I am still having to make do with my husband's iPad after he has gone to bed :-(

And hope you enjoy the bassoon Lally! :-)
