Sorry to be boring, but Kingsley has today received the result of her grade 8 saxophone, and despite her teacher thinking the scales had fallen apart on the day it's a DISTINCTION ! :D

Once again I'm a very proud Mummy.

(I might be back on here tomorrow as Lally is expecting her grade 1 bassoon result in her lesson)

I think you deserve to be one very proud Mummy! You have some exceptionally gifted (and hardworking) children, and they must have got it from somewhere.

I didn't get my result :cry: my teacher forgot to tell me! :roll:

I'm cross because the teacher is only in on Wednesdays. I just hope she hasn't walked off with the result sheet and that the head of music has it. She also told Lally that she's not going to be teaching at the school next year, so there will have to be a change of teacher. Lally is the only bassoonist, the rest of her pupils are oboe and sax, so I hope they get someone capable of taking over the lessons and not just an oboe teacher.

K started off being taught saxophone by a flute teacher(!), but only got really good when they got an actual sax teacher.

Well most bassoon teachers also teach oboe, as there isn't as much call for it. There is a woman locally to here that teaches bassoon, so I might have to contact her.
I agree about a specialist being best really. F started horn with a brass person who was really a tuba player and when he changed to having lessons out of school (our piano teacher who comes to the house is a brass person, but horn is his first instrument) he was told that he had bad habits, particularly in the mouth position, and he had only been taught to use half the horn.

Congratulations to Kingsley - brilliant result! And in anticipation to Lally - I love the bassoon which is so crucial for giviing real depth to an orchestra. Just today I was at a lunch-time concert by a local amateur orchestra and the two bassoonists were real stars - along with a super horn player, although I must admit that the first violins left something to be desired.....

All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".
