Oh, that's the best part of going for a nice walk - the fact that you've earned the treat afterwards and don't have to feel guilty.

I agree, a nice idea Bunny and I bet the people at the Wildlife Reserve were thrilled with the gift. :D
Surely what you Mum would have wanted to happen to the books.

The really strange thing is that we didn't know it existed until a couple of months ago. She would have absolutely loved it there. There are hides all round the lake but also lots of wild flowers and woods. She was a lifelong member of RSPB and BTO and participated in a garden bird study every day for about 30 years. She was also fiercely protective about things we would call "WEEDS" which she would say "are just plants in the wrong place".

It has rained here all day without stopping at all. At the moment it is torrential, we have had heavy showers for the last couple of weeks too, I just don't understand why there is talk of drought and water shortages. I've hardly watered the hanging baskets since they were planted and they are quite sheltered, so often need watering even when it rains, but this year there has been so much rain it just isn't necessary. The guttering on the house opposite can't cope with the amount that is coming down at the moment.

Try living in my house. We've been praying for rain and today is the first day we've had a decent amount in months. Our garden has been parched and Colin is so glad we don't have a water meter. He's spent at least an hour every night with the hose pipe. All we've had so far is miserly showers and not enough of them to even wet the garden. Whatever has fallen has dried before its had a chance to do any real good.

We've been having rain today but it's been dry for months. Our garden looks like a crisp. The only good thing is the weeds aren't growing either. Any minute now we'll be on hosepipe bans - our water comes from an aquefer and it runs out really fast now they've built all these hundreds of new houses where all the paper mills used to be.

They had a thing about how full the reservoirs are on TV the other day and Birmingham was at 98.8% fullness, which shows how much we've had in the midlands. Mind you the clouds go up over the Welsh Mountains and drop all their rain on us.

You midlanders are hogging all our rain. Typical.

Well something funny's going on in the 20 miles or so between you and me Gill,
It doesn't need 20 miles Laura. My son and I split a bag of seed potatoes in March. My pods are full to the top, leaves about 2'high and flowering. My son hasn't reached the top of his pod with compost yet. He lives 2.25 miles away. We do have really strange weather where we live. The bottom of the valley is probably 500 yards away. In the past we never seem to have had any extremes apart from fog but for the last 2 years or so we seem to get them all. We've had snow when everywhere else in Leeds was clear and sunshine when just half a mile away there was none. Last year there were days when it rained at the front of my house and we had none at the back. I dont live in a mansion. Think small, really small.

No heatwave in London really. I think what happened is that we had June in April and it's been more like April in June so far. :) Certainly today has been non-stop rain.

We've got all the water we need at the moment too. It hasn't stopped all day here either.

It was lovely yesterday here. :D Pleasant and sunny. I'm quite relieved it's raining today, at least I don't have all the pots (and next door's) to water. The only annoying thing is that I have to have a tortoise in my kitchen.

well, it stayed dry long enough this morning to go to the park and play on the slide, so I'm happy! (mind you, I think Thomas prefers it when it's wet as his waterproof is teflon coated - he goes really fast down the slide!)

Just hope it gives me some dry days this week as I'm off work. (downside is all my puzzle-working is on my machine at work and I was actually getting somewhere in this month's puzzles, unlike last)

It rained all day solid from mid-day yesterday here in the Lincolnshire flatlands. The worst aspect of the whole day was the cats. All 4 of them retreated to the conservatory so they could at least feel they were sort of outside-ish. But by late afternoon thay had all had enough sleep and were getting increasingly bored and restless. Then, yep you guessed it, it was full on 4 way WWE tag team type stuff with them all ripping chunks out of each other. Nightmare.

Anyway, nice and sunny today and spent the aft moving all the stone from the ganden wall that fell down a few weeks ago.
