Think he's calling me riff raff. But then he's probably right.

must admit, I do my shopping online where at all possible. It's just so much easier. But then, that only really works for food - not much use if your looking for something in size 8.... (they'd probably substitute it for a size 18  )

Oh, I don't know. Once I've got my clippers out I'll probably look more like Riff Raff.
And all I can say, Eirian, is that you are obviously a lot more organised than I am with online shopping. Last time I did that I ended up with GIANT conghiglie (and when I say giant, I mean each one was the size of my fist), enough carrots to feed ALL the rabbits which invaded Scurra's house during the Highbunny rave, and no toilet roll...

Try my method of a hair do - its quite effective especially if you have hair spray on at the time. Turn on a calor gas oven and forget to light it. Then open the door and press the ignition button. Whoosh   I am slightly singed and hoping the hairdress can remove the singed ends later today. This wasn't serious and only minor singeing but it served as a warning!!!

As for supermarkets, we seem to be on the winning end of a war at the moment. Locally we had a Netto, and Aldi and a Co-Op. Along came Waitrose, demolished the co-op and everything else in that parade and built a new large supermarket. Now Netto on the opposite side of the road is about to become an Asda. (Both owned by the same group). My days of driving to Tesco or Morrisons may be numbered.

That's why I had to have so much cut off last time. Because I set light to my hair whilst burning eucalyptus. And that is why it's so annoying now, it's sufficiently short to end up looking all fluffy and mad every time it gets rained on. Mind you, I can't have it cut too short or it stands up on end first thing in the morning. In fact, when it's cut short, it's a lot like Scurra's...(except I don't have a beard). Not yet, anyway.

Well all I can say is you're honoured. Thing is (and I'm talking from experience here) if you have that kind of hair, unless you wash it every day, it WILFULLY sticks up in the morning. And no amount of wetting it down and combing it will make the slightest bit of difference. My son's hair is exactly the same. Except his grows out at 90 degrees to his head, and gets "bigger" rather than longer. Bit like Oor Wullie except without the bucket.

I heard you'd been meeting up. Hope you've not been plotting...

I've just been looking for a photograph of my honorary grand daughter but cant find it. She has long afro hair thats not quite afro. She got up one morning and we took a photo and measured her hair height. 10 inches and she was only 7. Her mum uses a full bottle of afro ease every day. Now that is hair that stands on end!!!

Wow, that is truly impressive!! One of the lads I work with is half Swedish and half Nigerian. He's got the MOST amazing hair you've ever seen. It's just like a huge head of tiny ringlets, but if you stretch them out, they are about 18 inches long. The enterprising chap realised it was quite a pull, and started CHARGING girls 50p a time to "feel his hair"!!

the staff get lots of training
ive noticed the difference to where i work now

i know all the regulations for H&S etc
ive had customer service training

so im answering phones and dealing with the awkward customers
finding them not to be awkward but nice
the only one who takes his breaks
the only one who doesnt use certain machinery
(even though sainsburys trained me on it and i know more than the people using it)

Thank you all for your offers of help. The jacket arrived this morning from Looby and is a nice fit on Kingsley. Isn't it wonderful to have such good friends. :D

Yes, it's fantastic for that, and it's amazing how supportive people can be when you need them. But it's also wonderful to have somewhere to come and moan and get it all off your chest. You know you'll either get much needed sympathy, OR on the odd occasion, someone telling you straight "OK, you need to get over it. Shut up. " Which is actually the sign of true friends, and in my case is very much needed on occasions!!

I often find myself saying to someone - "oh I'll ask someone on my puzzle site. There's bound to be SOMEONE who'll know something about that!" And sure enough, they usually do. :D

OK. It's official. I AM a grumpy old woman. I was in Tesco today and was at the fish counter. There was an enormous sign "SEASONS BEST". So, being sad and anal, I said to the fishmonger "You do realise there should be an apostrophe on that sign, don't you?" He shrugged. Then I went to the chicken chiller. Individual packets of three chicken breasts with a label saying "Half price, £3". However, on the shelf, there was a label which said "Special offer, two for £10". Now I'm not the best at maths, but even I can see that if I bought three packets individually then I'd pay £9. If I used their scheme I'd pay £13 for three packets. So I went and grumped at the checkout lady, saying that if I had to, I WOULD queue up three times and make everyone wait, but I didn't want to. I got them for my £9.

It strikes me that Tesco makes phenomenal profits; can they REALLY not afford to employ someone to do their marketing who can use the English language and add up?

Anyway, I left, and deliberately abandoned my trolley on the pavement. That way they will continue employing the cheerful disabled trolley man.

Do you think I could get a job with Jenny Eclair et al? :D

I took a tin of evaporated milk to customer services in Morrisons and asked how much I would be charged for it. I was told snottily the shelves were priced. I agreed but made the girl come with me- there were 3 different prices all in a row. :D I got it the lowest price.

I was once in ASDA when the tills crashed. They just put everyone's shopping through and said "What do you think? About £20?" They were underestimating deliberately so that people would accept their offers, better than causing huge queues or losing customers.

Gill, I actually did that in M & S. Some clothes were on the wrong rail, and the rail price was £5 cheaper. I couldn't believe it, but they actually sold it to me for £5 less. :o Mind you, this is the store where I actually witnessed an ex colleague (who was quite possibly the best person I've ever seen at complaining) take a jumper back to M &S WHICH WAS TWO YEARS OLD, because it had stretched. She had her tape measure there ready to prove it. They gave her a full refund of the original price!!!!!
