Oh come on..... No-one in Devon should ever try anything other than Honiton.... :o - but I agree that it is horribly intricate..... Eirian's grandmother joined a local class in Torbay (wonder if her teacher is still around for you????) and loved it so much that she inspired her granddaughter to try it.

This morning they said that everywhere in the country except Scotland (sorry Tricia!) would be having glorious sunshine and heat (albeit with a risk of thunder - possibly!)
Well, here in Devon we had steady heavy rain all morning, with no sign of sun - and now hot and clammy.... But your Midland monsoons don't sound much fun, Giraffe :(

I could never yse the Honiton bobbins - they were much too fine . When I do any lace I use the Bruge bobbins because they are more comfortable with my arthritis

YES. Spent most of the day replacing the rear suspension on my daughters "NEW" car (a fairly skanky 2000 Ford KA). Hummph. WAY WAY WAY tooooooo HOT. Slipping spanners, skinned knuckles, fruity language just about sums it up.

Never mind more fun tomorrow. Dentist. Two fillings. Poo.

Let's just hope that it isn't too hot for the dentist. If he gets slippy hands, you never know what he might do with HIS spanners...

Just been to Kingsley's last concert with the Shropshire Youth Wind Orchestra. :( A very good evening's entertainment, but she starts Junior Conservatoire in September and both are on Saturdays.

Yes, I hope so, particularly as she has her sights set on possibly senior conservatoire in two years. ;)

I suddenly had a mental picture of them all six inches tall, made out of icing and standing on top of a sponge cake...

K had an audition in Birmingham at 5.30pm. Set off at 3.30, so not much rush hour on the way in, just building up as we got there. Driving along the M6 I glanced in my rear view mirror just in time to see the car behind hit the central reservation head first, and spin across the motorway, shedding bits of car as he went, and come to rest broadside across the middle lane. :o Good job the traffic hadn't built up! Then driving along the bristol road (big main road two lanes in each direction) van in front smashed his wing mirror into the wing mirror of a van coming the other way. Needless to say I was quite glad to get there in one piece. And then we hit the main rush hour coming home and that was even more fun, stuck in a traffic jam in the tunnels under the city centre. :(

Bet you're shattered!

I've mostly bin having a chaotic day. The powers that be decided to open the school in parts, but then didn't actually plan out how it would actually WORK. We ended up baby sitting loads of kids instead of them being taught by the teachers that WERE there.

That sounds a scary day giraffe. Glad to hear you're OK, I'll bet you were relieved to get home safe.

And fun and games for you bunny, lets hope everything gets back to normal tomorrow.

A rough day on the roads giraffe - but everyone is safe (that's the main thing). If you're going to see an accident, then the best place you can see it is the rear-view mirror :o

I don't usually have official 'breaks' in the working day, but today I am. I've just finished washing the outside of the bus in preparation for a very full weekend of work. The things I've got to say about birds (and their deposits) are not fit for a family forum - but my bus is 30-feet long by 12-feet wide, and the little blighters seem to delight in trying to change the words on the sides :(

That's done now, so I've got the rest of the day to try and bring the inside into order. In office re-arrangements I've ended up with boxes of stuff on board the bus as there's nowhere else for it to go (and I don't want to throw it out). So I've got to make this lot look respectable for the general public at the weekend's Sunderland Festival.

It used to be the annual Kite Festival, then it was renamed the Friendship Festival, and now it seems to have taken on another role.

http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=5205

The fact I'm now working on my own, and I'm 'stuck' with doing both days is an issue I'm dealing with :( The same goes for the International Airshow in 4 weeks when I have to do both days of that weekend too :( But at least it sounds like the weather is going to be OK this year. [It has been cut short for Health & Safety reasons in years gone by]

So - a busy day today followed by a busier weekend.... I'll drop in on here if I get a chance, and I'll see if I can have a few puzzles layed out for me to 'ponder' while the crowds drift by.

Just got some tickets through the post that I ordered for a concert that K is in. Feeling a bit miffed. 5 tickets I have been sent K15 and M19-22 . So now we have to draw straws for who sits on their own. K15 is right at the back of the flat bit and M is on the tiered bit, so probably a much better view. I don't feel like sending them back and complaining because they are quite central, but still cross because I tried to order them from the theatre and they kept telling me they would be available "tomorrow" After two weeks of waiting they came up online, but the only seats available were the back 5 rows or so. So I applied direct to the organisers of the concert, which I was trying to avaoid because there was no option to choose seats, and now I have an odd seat. grrr! (Probably should have put that on the whinge thread)

Also mostly been making a birthday cake. (Well I cheated with the cake and bought it, but been sculpting!) I'll post a picture if it is a success.

Have a good weekend MBH

I've bin house clearing. Again. My Dad rang this morning to say he was driving over to collect some of the heavy engineering tools (bandsaw, lathe etc.) He had to dismantle them and get them out of one of the sheds, which is FULL of junk. So I grabbed my son and made him come round to help (my Dad, 81, was thinking he'd be doing this all on his own, including scrambling over stuff and lifting heavy things. ). While in the shed, he realised that he'd left a power source which could be dangerous, and decided to disable it. That was pretty terrifying to watch, him, perched awkwardly on a machine bench, sticking a screwdriver in some live electrical stuff and commenting "Oh this damned hand tremor is a pain..."

Anyway, sorted another 7 bin liners of stuff and got them to the charity shop and got COMPLETELY filthy. Again. Thing is, I've been doing this for months and months and months. And it never seems to look any better or any less full. Meanwhile, the enormous garden is so overgrown that I suspect that there may be a sleeping princess in a castle at the bottom of it.
