Re: Tesco?
That's brilliant giraffe. A great way to keep everyone happy.
Re: Tesco?
Tesco have always been the most notorious among all the big supermarkets for their dreadful pricing policy.
NEVER NEVER believe their so-called 'special offers' - always compare the normal prices alongside it. Their most regular scam is to have large-size packets of things with huge price labels as if it is an offer - when two smaller packs are often a much better deal....
On the other hand, they do have some pretty good genuine offers
Unfortunately we are stuck with Tesco as our main local supermarket, which happens to be only 10 minutes walk away from us - although there is a decent Co-op in the town centre (now that they have taken over Somerfield). However, there is a new Lidl due to open next year, just a little way beyond the Tesco, and "WHICH?" has come out strongly and consistently for Lidl as everyone's favourite (apart from Waitrose - if you are happy and able to pay more), so it will be interesting to see if it lives up to expectations.

Re: Tesco?
looking in my local Lidl
some specific things are cheaper but mostly its slightly more expensive
than standard supermarkets since in you can buy multi packs etc. at a cheaper per unit price
i noticed this a long time ago, whilst working in Sainsburys
i could shop in Sainsburys cheaper than Lidl even without the discount i had then
when i was unemployed i could spread money further i had time to wander round several supermarkets, markets local shops looking for the deals and good prices

Re: Tesco?
I have to object to that remark and say that Tesco in my opinion is the best supermarket we have around here (except maybe Waitrose but they don't stock half the stuff I want)Wulfruna wrote:Tesco have always been the most notorious among all the big supermarkets for their dreadful pricing policy.

The staff are polite, always ready to help and, inspite of being a big place, the staff remember me from week to week.
All supermarkets have special offers and lost leaders. If you pay more for a large packet than 2 small ones then that is YOUR fault for not checking the prices, not the supermarket's fault for putting on a special offer. You can go into Poundland and pay £1 (surprise) for something that would have cost 80p somewhere else, but that doesn't make it an expensive place to shop, nor does it make them cheats.

Re: Tesco?
I must say, that most of the staff I have spoken to at Tesco are very pleasant and very helpful.

Re: Tesco?
I agree - I never said anything to the detriment of the lovely staff, who are always more than helpful......
But it was shopping at Tesco nearly 40 years ago that taught me the lesson of not believing the so-called "bargains"(loss leaders) near the door that turned out to be more expensive than two smaller packetsof exactly the same thing on their own normal shelves. And they are still at it! It's by means confined to Tesco, but they are one of the worst offenders at this particular deception. I'm not talking about things that might be cheaper somewhere else, but about the pretence that a large packet is a cheaper option within the same store. Not everyone is able to do the (sometimes complicated) arithmetic on the spot when standing in front of the shelf.

Re: Tesco?
I have to say that I have Tesco home delivery, which is great, I don't have to walk around (Sainsburys as that is really all we have) with my grumpy OH who questions everything that is in the trolly even when I pay the bill.
I save about £10 a week not buying "impulse" buys and the delivery guys would, if I ask put the bags on the kitchen floor and my favorite delivery man flirts unmercifully and chats about programs I'm listening to on my ipod with total expertise, bliss!

I don't have hot flushes. I have short holidays in the Tropics.

ive noticed most supermarkets put the price/100g or similar on the bottom of the shelf edge labels
makes working out the cheaper 1 per portion easier

Re: Tesco?
I've still been asked by people "Excuse me, this is 10% off. How much will that be? I'm rubbish at maths".
I must look like someone who can do maths. Little do they know...
(Although, I hasten to add that 10% off isn't a problem!!) Mind you, I think my main purpose in life seems to be reaching tins down from the top shelves for little old ladies and people in wheelchairs. So being tall does have some uses, after all...
It doesn't happen as often as it used to though. I think I used to LOOK taller when I wasn't so fat. Optical illusion.

Re: Tesco?
That's a twin thing we DO share. But as well as looking like someone who can do maths, I seem to be the 'perfect employee' since everybody assumes I work in whatever shop (or anything else) I happen to be inBunnylump wrote: Mind you, I think my main purpose in life seems to be reaching tins down from the top shelves for little old ladies and people in wheelchairs. I've reported numeric oddities to the service desk before ["Bigger pack for bigger savings.... or possibly 10p more"] but I don't think it does any good.

with so many people involved in the chain of command it takes ages for it to be fixed
or they assume its someone else's job...
i remember working at Sainsburys
every time there was a problem in the warehouse it was always passed over to a specific department....
problem being grocery(the dept i was part of) was last in so if they left it it became our problem by default
(what an hour to go till home time were all bringing rubbish to the bailer and its produce's turn to empty it??....strange they are all busy and nowhere to be found so everyone leaves the rubbish there...and hour later guess which mugs have to empty all three compartments.. which are over flowing and going to collapse when we empty them....)

Re: Tesco?
Last night I was getting in the taxi to go to Kew and it was a Galaxy. I asked the driver if I should get in the back row and he said " Is there anyone smaller?"I think I used to LOOK taller when I wasn't so fat. Optical illusion.
I told one of the other ladies what he had said and she told me a story of looking at some things in a shop for her niece. She's about 45 and doesn't have children (yet?), and the shop assistant said "Are they for your grandchildren?"
