England riots

#1 Post by Redfraggle » Tue Aug 09, 2011 8:49 pm

Are any of you near the riots in England? Was watching it on the news. Same old, same old and it's a pain in the a$$! Just wondering are you all ok.

I'm glad I'm not at work tomorrow. I just hope they haven't been able to do any serious damage in Manchester - we've only just got the place looking decent after the ira bomb.
(Luckily I live a fair distance from it all)

My son's office football match was cancelled this evening as the police were expecting possible trouble in the area. He's meant to be meeting up with friends in town this evening anyway so I'll be glad when he either gets home or rings to say he is staying the night. Yesterday he was out flat-hunting for somewhere to live with a couple of friends in London. It's getting a bit difficult to find a riot free area at the moment though! He didn't actually see any trouble but did see some police cordons yesterday.

No rioting here, thank goodness. But the idiots will no doubt soon catch on to the idea that they can implement a bit of random thuggery for no apparent reason. They don't need much encouragement.

It hasn't spread this far North - or maybe we're just more civilized?

I heard an amazing statement from one young female on the radio saying the day was all about "showing the police we can do what we like". I wonder if she'd say the same if she was a victim of someone else doing whatever they liked to her :(

I don't dare start saying anything about how it's been bubbling under the surface waiting to come out, because I'll get Scurra back on his soap box about how it's always been this bad... Bottom line is the "Toxic Childhoods" which so many are experiencing (broken homes, poor role models, being allowed to do whatever they want with no boundaries and not even a proper diet etc.) will eventually present in this type of behaviour. I can't say I am surprised.

But let's not forget all the wonderful, charming, talented young people we have too, eh? There are lots of those as well. :D

They will probably impose a curfew and they should bring over the Northern Ireland riot police. They'll beat the carp out of them - that'll teach them a lesson

I did have to laugh though when they said all the police water cannon vehicles were in Belfast

The difference with the England riots is that they are attacking businesses and basically just causing chaos. Our riots are aimed at two opposing sides so businesses are usually left alone.

Everyone should start hoping for really wet weather - most are just fair weather rioters believe it or not - heavy rain will keep them indoors!

Just glad you're all ok.

What do they want water cannon for? we've got fire engines to squirt them with. Rain would be a good thing.

They tried in Plymouth last night and set fire to Poundland (shows the class divide!)

Apparently, one of my friends went into Wakefield town centre this morning and passed a group of teenagers talking about rioting, to which one replyed "Nah, I can't be ****d!" Sounds about right to me.

Hit the nail on the head with first quote Bunny.

The second quote also right as I reckonat least double the number of kids turned out to clean up as those who caused the damage.

K is off to London tomorrow to meet some friends to go to the proms. We've been wavering over whether we are happy to let her go, and feeling very nervous. We were nervous before the riots as she is so unused to big cities, but feel we ought to let her spread her wings.

According to my son he has seen no trouble on the tubes at all. The only way he has been inconvenienced is when the pub he was in with friends last night was closed at 9.00pm!! Oh and a couple of nights ago a road was cordoned off by police so he had to take a slightly different route. At least the Albert Hall is not in an area known for it's shopping malls!! I can't see the looters getting much there. I'd see what, if anything, happens tonight.
