must admit have enjoyed some puzzling today:)

Wow Biscuit - that's dramatic I hope things work out for you.

Tonight I bin.... taking advantage of the 'free activities' at the Council run leisure centre to have a go at Badminton after a break of (ooops) 30 years. Played for 45 minutes with a pair of beginners and then a mixed pair where the guy has been playing regularly for the past 4 years.

My body remembered the moves and instinct kicked in to make it a very good pair of games - but my bodies ability to follow that instict has sadly deteriorated over time. Which is why my right elbow and wrist are in excrew... eccscroo... severe pain It's all right as long as I don't move it, lift it, or try to hold anything The movement of my fingers as I type is travelling all along my forearm and feeling very odd.

Hope a night's rest will make it feel better. However I did have fun

The guy I mentioned at the end was the chairman for the British Airways Badminton Club that meets there for 9 months of the year. I think he was trawling for members and said I would be very welcome to check them out when they restart in September. [No, you don't need to be connected to BA to join]

I hope it all works out for you, Biscuit. Sometimes it just HAS to be done though, for the sake of sanity and happiness. I handed in my notice from my last job because it was stressful and making me unhappy. Best thing I ever did.

And MBH - you take care!! I've always said this exercise malarkey is a dangerous pursuit... However, if you're enjoying yourself, then that's a good thing. Mind, I've been lugging boxes of books (yes, there are still more) and turfing out several tons of rocks from every cupboard in Mum's house (she collected them because she was fascinated by geology... ). So I'm aching too.

I've also just heard my sister in law has been rushed to hospital with severe abdominal pain, which is a worry... So it looks like I'll be revisiting the delightful Watford general tomorrow.

Have had a great couple of days - a day trip to Bruge on Tuesday - part of the birthday girls present.

The open day was a great success - the suggestions you made about the extra quiche , crackers cheese bread stick etc were all acted upon - in the end we had eough food to open a sandwich shop. It was a lovely sunny day - comfortable temperature for sitting in the Garden. The first guests arrived about 10.30 and the final guest left about 8pm. The yougest was 91/2 weeks , and the oldest 90. At the busy period there was about 30 peple at one time. She had a great time!

I was also carrying two snapping the event and I plan to make a photobook of the event. One of the other girls who was helping to organise things - arranged a Guestbook and we asked everone who came to sign and leave a message. There was also a very impressive cake made by another of her younger friends.

sitting in a train travelling home. Had a fantastic holiday - the party was great, also saw my family and the weather was fantastic. Unfortunately I got sunburnt! Looking forward to some serious puzzling.

This is really for Bassbloke. Just returned from Withernsea- its bikers day today. You missed a good day BB. 26 degrees and not a cloud to be seen. Not only that but the farmers didn't do their usual trick of muck spreading so there was no smell either (The farmers usually do this 2 days before the bikers arrive in the hope they'll put them off-why \I dont know. ) Great day as usual and the bands were just getting going when we had to leave.

Yesterday I did mostly go out with my HOG Chapter (Google "Lindum Colonia", it's quite a good web site really) to Castle Howard, which was nice. On the way back the sump plug fell out of the engine (that's the bit that you take out to drain all the oil out of the engine). I nearly crashed coz of all the oil on the back tyre. I dumped the entire contents of the engine on some back road near Howden then waited for 3 hours to be rescued and sorted out. Pooo. Wish I had gone to Withernsea now. I'm sure the plug would still have fallen out but I might have been closer to home when it happened

Today I are bin mostly becoming a student again. Two weeks at Sheffield Hallam Uni on a Maths crammer prior to teacher training starting. Sudent card, room in halls, everything. Then I suppose I will have to return to the real world and do some work for a bit. Ha!! BB.

To be frank, I have seen some of them. I really don't know how to put this across in a sufficiently PC way but "lambs to the slau**ter" really features strongly in my thinking. Don't get me wrong, this is going to be very tough and VERY vertical. But I just hope my "maturity" will prove to be the asset I think it should be.

Hmmmm? Time will tell no doubt.

Today we bought a VW Caravelle to convert into a campervan. It's white (that's about all I know about motor vehicles)

Just spent an hour tracking down a shrew in our bedroom. I realised one of our cats was growling and looked round to find one was in the bedroom and the other was in the doorway staring at her. And just in front of her was a tiny shrew. The stupid cat didn't seem totally sure what to do with it so I went for the dustpan and brush in the hope of scooping it up and carrying it outside. Shrew escaped past me at breakneck speed and disappeared in the gap (about an inch) between a chest of drawers and a bookcase. So we got all the drawers out of the chest so we could shift it in the hope that I could try again to capture the shrew. Shrew disappeared behind bookcase.
Emptied bookcase, all 7 shelves plus various ornaments. Cat tried to help too. Then OH decided to lift the bookcase up and shrew made a run for it behind his bedside table. Tried to scoop it out from under that into dustpan. Shrew ran behind bed. We now have a bedroom that looks like it has been turned over by a burglar with books, drawers and sundry items all over the place. Managed to corner the shrew under my bedside table. Enlisted the help of my son to try to poke it out with this wonderful contraption we have for pickng things up that have fallen behind cupboards etc. We were kneeling side by side in about 2 feet of space, me with that trusty dustpan. (actually not so trusty as it hadn't worked yet!). We used some of the books to block it's getaway. After about 10 minutes of this we decided to create a little area with more books and then shift the bedside table forward. At this point the rear casters fell off the table blocking the shrew into our holding space. Then I got another gadget which is a tube with a mini vacuum suction that we use to get rid of spiders and other creepy crawlies, trapped the shrew into a corner. Son poked it so it ran into the tube and OH held a light so we could see what we were doing. Success at last and I released the little b****r into the garden.
Then we set about putting our bedroom to rights. And now I'm exhausted. Not to mention filfthy from all the dust behind furniture.

I like the blocking off of escape routes with the books you were forced to move. Practical puzzle solving at it's best and a potential futre video game
