Alphactors

#1 Post by Redfraggle » Thu Sep 01, 2011 8:43 pm

I have a child in school who is fantastic at maths - she's 10 years old. She absolutely loves puzzles - especially mathematical ones and codebreakers. Do any of you have any copies of alphactor puzzles? I have all my DVP books locked in the loft so I can't get to them. She's such a sweetheart I want to give her some alphactors as a sort of reward because she helps me in the office each day after school.

Yes funnily enough I just printed 10 off for our new member wyses99 and spent yesterday lunch with her trying to explain them  :? I may have to e-mail them as they are on my external drive, but I will try here first.

I think Cenwulf might be your man here. As I recall he has made loads of them!!

Good point Bunny, but make sure they're the 'checked' versions... I remember a slip-up or two along the way (which can get VERY frustrating). ;)

I had a go at a couple I seem to remember... Here's one using forum names from the other place.

I can't vouch for the accuracy, as it's dredged up from an old machine!

I'm sure I have quite a few stashed away so I could type some of them out again for you. Just need to find where I've put them.

Well, the one I posted is solvable.. I wouldn't put it in the 'beginner' bracket though.

Thank you so much for these. She stopped me this morning and said 'Mrs Acheson, did you get me any puzzles for the weekend?' I told her that I had asked my puzzle friends and they would send me some if they had them. She's going to be over the moon :D

Here are a few I did for DVP. In 'Alpha' all the words begin with A; in 'Omega' they all end in O. 'Ireland' is self-explanatory.

If you want to give her something a bit trickier, try the Prime Alphactor (all prime numbers) and the Dualphactor (each letter appears twice).

OMG that might be good - but one of my main 'loves' on here is that you are MY friends (completely separate from locals)

LOL - you don't want space-hopper stories spreading round school  Undersandable ;)

fStill - solving 5 of these is very impressuve - it might be worth selecting individual pages and seeing what else she can do.
