Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
It's just I went on a website which said "you will not be able to view the images unless you have javascript enabled". I don't understand what that means.

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
javascript != java
(javascript does not equal java).
I wish they had never made such a similar name for the scripting language, it's the source of many confusions.
ALL browsers since the "internet stone age" natively support javascript. It is possible that you have set it to be turned off in the browser options, but I doubt you'd have done that on purpose.
If you don't have an install of a java runtime environment you can download it from http://java.com/en/ which will be safe from that site.
[edit] simulposting, yay!
Perhaps you have got javascript disabled then... in which case you may be able to turn it back on via the "Internet Options" panel in Internet Explorer (since I'm going to assume that's the only browser you've got on your machine) - find the security tab, make sure the "internet" zone is selected and - probably - under "Custom settings" you should find a list of options. Scroll through this to find the "Scripting" section with "Active Scripting" choices. Choose "enabled" and restart the browser.

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
I've got Google Chrome on here. I've tried looking under the spanner in the top corner, and eventually found, under "under the bonnet" (
) it says
So I assume it must just be a problem with the site I was looking at.
Thank you for your help.
and it's got a blob to indicate that is how it's set.Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended)

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
Makes one wonder whether the site you were looking at *is* the problem - if they have some dodgy scripts that set/read some overintrusive tracking cookies it could be a natural defence of the browser limiting what it thinks should be allowed. Or a defence of your internet security/antivirus package.Bunnylump wrote:So I assume it must just be a problem with the site I was looking at.

Well, after what happened last time I would not be in the least bit surprised by that.Or a defence of your internet security/antivirus package.

find the security tab
I wish people who know what they are talking about understood that the rest of us don't.
I'm not trying to follow your instructions as I don't have bunnylump's problem, but I was reading the discussion thinking I might learn something. How does one "find the security tab" ?

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
SparkOut just assumed a step - in the Tools menu of IE, an entry near the bottom should say "Internet options". Open that, and you will find the "security" tab in there.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
And I thought I was doing well at putting all the info down too!
I neglected to say that the "Internet options" setting is found under the "Tools" menu of Internet Explorer. Once the Internet options are selected, the Security tab will be on that panel.
Where the "Tools" menu is in Internet Explorer depends on the version. You might find an icon of a cog on the right hand side near the top. Otherwise you might find the word "Tools" in a more normal looking text menu bar.
All this is different if you use any other browser than Microsoft's Internet Explorer too.

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
Well I had tried looking under tools and there wasn't a "security heading". I have found it now. The problem is that if it is three layers down and you don't use something there are so many options. Tools has 17 subheadings and each of those probably has subheadings.
I still seem to be unable to tell the difference between quote and spoiler!

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
This is probably all Miaisie's fault and the most likely source of help is Laura. Are there any pedal steel guitar tutors in the Yorkshire area?
Do you want me to qualify the train of thought? I always said I'd learn how to play it once I had the time -but that was many moons ago. Maisie and I have have gone down the road of Billy Ray Cyrus,Dixie Chicks, Allison Krauss ,Union Station and various others. Union S have a guy who plays guitar like a steel pedal. Then I remembered Sarah Jory- the girl who made me want to play pedal steel after she'd appeared at several of the linedance gigs I used to do. So now there is nothing stopping me- except I can't find anyone to teach me!

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
Well, as I had to google Pedal Steel Guitar to find out what you were on about, I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help!
However, for all information musical I would go to http://www.octaveabove.co.uk/contactus.htm .They're a fantastic music shop in Huddersfield, and if anyone is likely to know a good teacher around here, they are. I would say that they have a couple of part-time staff who are not as knowledgable, so if you speak to a drippy-sounding woman, I'd try again later!

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
OK am I seeing / hearing / reading things (too much wine at the party??
) or am I correct in understanding that
1. Gill is learning pedal steel
2. Maisie is learning line dancing by PHONE??
(Rubs eyes in disbelief).
I think I have heard it all now.
I don't know any pedal steel teachers but I do know someone who has a pedal steel. Oh, and I know what you mean about playing the guitar like a pedal steel (sitting it on your lap with a bottle slide?) Ted from one of D's bands plays like that sometimes. It's called a LAP STEEL. It sounds good. Another one of them has a dobro too, which sounds good on certain tracks. (Nothing like a pedal steel, but nonetheless a bit different).

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
Well 'Dobro' had me off to Google as well (and I double checked that the pedal steel was what I thought it was). Sounds like an interesting challenge Gill - and I hope we get to hear it as I love that sound.
As for learning to dance by phone - THAT is a new one on me, but probably is a reasonable adaptation of current technology. Rhumba Aquarius anyone?
