CoPE is Certificate of Personal Effectiveness http://www.asdan.org.uk/Qualifications/CoPE_1_and_2. Basically, it's a coursework based qualification for the pathway 1 students - the ones who do fewer GCSEs and also follow either an extended work experience programme, vocational, college-based programmes or Young Apprenticeship Scheme*. One of the tasks they have to do is to organise an event - the pupils are responsible for advertising it, sending out invitations, booking the room, buying and making all the tea and coffee and running a raffle. This all has to be done within a budget. The idea is that they also involve members of the local community, so they get to practise their inter personal skills. They thought it would make it even more worthwhile if they also raised some money for charity in the meanwhile. I really hope it goes well for them - they put their hearts and souls into it.

*And yes, I realise that you probably don't know what all these are either. School has changed a lot since we were there. I think on the whole it's a good idea. It means that instead of totally being in classrooms, getting bored and not achieving anything (and therefore on occasions disrupting the learning of others) some of the pupils get to spend one or two days at college learning useful skills such as building, cookery, car mechanics, hairdressing, childcare etc.

Not sure I dare ask although I think I can guess what you mean, but I've never heard the term before what's copping?
I just googled it but I assume you aren't using it the way The Sun used it about a police officer!

I thought it meant the same as bunking off, doesn't it? Because if it doesn't then I hasten to add that I didn't do anything like THAT in PE lessons...well, not most of the time, anyway...

I just looked up the story you were referring to and was laughing at the comment
One told local channel KOB 4 News: "With that kind of judgement you don't want him carrying a weapon."
  I'd say he'd already found what to do with his weapon...

Anyway, LAT. Look what you've gone and done, made me tarnish my unblemished reputation by making me discuss this kind of thing...

 Yes I'd always called it bunking off - assuming that is what you meant you got up to! ;)

And I'd say it was MBH who raised the subject first.

CoPE group did a sterling job meeting and greeting the guests; one of the boys (who's studying media) organised a sound system and some classical music, the others transported tables around and decorated the extended schools building to transform it into a cafe. They have raised a wonderful £125 profit for McMillan Cancer Care Trust. :D Lots of parents and staff turned up and seemed to quite enjoy themselves, and they liked the cakes! :D I felt sorry for one of the nice lads, who didn't have enough money to buy a cake or a raffle ticket (he is entitled to free school meals). So I bought him a cake and gave him one of my raffle tickets. And guess what? It was that raffle ticket which won!!

You are a sweetie, what did he win? Glad the cakes went down well.

At the hairdressers to get me tidied up for my holiday at the weekend. Off to Holland for a few days. It was a bit of a celebration as John was celebrating 30 years of business. Came away after a glass of wine. ...Very civilised :D

I think I should be banned from bathrooms. I've had my second painful accident of the week. This morning I tripped getting out of the shower and bashed my toe really hard on the metal strip at the bottom of the door. Next thing I knew I was bleeding all over the carpet and the shower mat. I've just had a look and there is nothing sharp, so it must have been the force of the impact, which probably explains why my toe feels broken.

Giraffe - you must be covered in bruises and injuries! Ouch. I think you need to consider buying a bubble wrap all in one...

I've been trying to work out how to use my new phone. I didn't WANT a touch screen phone, I wanted one with buttons. But the ones they do with buttons all have rubbish cameras, or are too quiet for me to hear my phone ringing in my handbag. And REALLY helpfully, it didn't come with any instructions. They just assume that everyone realises they have to log onto an Orange website and then search around until they find the instructions (which are, predictably, really difficult to find!)

The man is the shop kept asking me things like
"do you want to be using facebook, bbm, weather updates, what?"
"No, I want to be able to phone people." He looked really shocked.

So if anyone gets random incomprehensible gibberish from me, feel free to ignore it... (LAT, you probably already have some of that...sorry... )

That's why I like my phone. It may be a bit oldfashioned, but I know how it works and it doesn't try to do anything fancy. It is about 6 years old though, so I keep expecting it to give up the ghost.

The good news is my hand has recovered from earlier in the week's "falling backwards through bathroom doorway whilst leaving finger behind in bedroom" incident. I think the toe may take a little longer.

Definite bubble wrap needed then.

...Damned tortoise has woken up. I don't WANT a tortoise rampaging around my living room.

I just think you need to stay away from bathrooms giraffe. And preferably from me too after a couple of weeks!
Hope the foot improves soon.

I received a random text Bunnylump. Still waiting for the other 49 though. :D
At the moment I have two phones but I refuse to carry both around with me. I have my own trusty old-fashioned phone which does the normal things like sending texts and making calls plus takes reasonable photos. And I have a work one which I have only been given because it would have cost a fortune to cancel the contract when someone left. So I tend to carry that around with me for now as it doesn't cost me anything to use it. :D I think I could use it to check my emails and possibly more but I've never tried. I don't like it particularly as it is all chrome so looks dirty very easily, weighs more than my own and the battery life is much worse. But it's free. ;)

I'm now making massive progress. I have worked out how to write the word POO. I also, eventually, worked out how to put an album on it (boy, that was complicated!) but then discovered that takes up loads of space, so I have stopped at one. Really wish I'd realised that before I put that one on (Katrine Polwart). It's nice enough, but not my all time favourite! Have also managed to take a lopsided photo of the mantelpiece.

You didn't write POO in your message to me!
But why did you want to learn how to write it?
