Scurra if this counts as political remove it.Dear friends,
First of all, sorry for sending a blanket appeal email. To be completely open and honest, I’ve gone through my address book and sent it to everyone who I didn’t know had already voted, and who might conceivably do so!
Our church (website below if you’d like to know more) is raising funds to renovate and improve a disused and increasingly derelict library as a church and community centre. We need around £50K to do it well, and we’ve raised over £20K from within the church. We’ve got various grant applications pending, and we need your help to win one of them. Both of those figures have risen sharply since the application went in, so the figures on the site are smaller.
We’re eligible for a grant from the NatWest CommunityForce Fund, but we’re currently about 150 votes behind the front 3 projects in our region – and it’s the 3 with the most votes by Monday lunchtime who will win grants!
If you’re able to vote for us, and if you can persuade anyone else to do so, it should only take you a few minutes (you do have to register, but it doesn’t appear to commit you to anything!) and you may help us to bring the St Thomas Centre into being!

Thanks very much for reading this, and thanks in advance if you’re able to help.
Yours,
Nick Watson

Appeal
I have received an email from a friend (husband of my oldest friend). He is vicar of Wednesfield, an inner city area of Wolverhampton, they moved there two years ago from a leafy village, his old parishoners thought he was mad but he is really trying to make a difference. He is asking for people to register and vote for a project they are working on and they need votes before Moday to try to get funding. I must admit registering was a bit fiddly(but that might have been me!) Here is the email:
Re: Appeal
Well I think I've managed it. After registering I took a while to find the project again so I could vote but ended up doing it by clicking on your link again.
Best of luck to them.

Re: Appeal
Thank you.
Yes I think that was the problem I had, I kept getting lost.

Re: Appeal
Sorry, I did try but I didn't realise it would be a different password to the password I gave it (presumably it sends a new one to the e mail address?). I can't get on to my e mail today and will be leaving for London this afternoon. Sorry.
You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

I think you just need to use the confirmation email to finalise your registration. Then you can log in again using your password.
Re: Appeal
And funnily enough I just had an email from FSID asking me to vote for CONI breathing monitors for babies in Preston. So they got a vote too. (Seems I have 3 votes)
Re: Appeal
I had the same problem - but when I clicked on the link again in your original post ( after registering) - lo and behold, up it came. This seems a very worthwhile project and deserving of recommendation. Good luck to themLAT wrote:Well I think I've managed it. Friends - please support this appeal!
Re: Appeal
Do you know yet if they got the funding?
Re: Appeal
I asked and she said that they hadn't, but they were about to be considered for some other funding I think. I'm seeing her on Friday (hopefully), so I might find out more then. From what she said they didn't really get any feedback from the Natwest thing as to where they had come, or how much they had missed out by.
Re: Appeal
That's a shame. It would have been nice to know how they had done. Let's hope they do get the other funding.
Re: Appeal
I just had a look and i don't still have her email as I got a warning to clear out my inbox yesterday, but I think she said the other thing they had applied for a small amount, but seemed to be being considered for a larger one!
Re: Appeal
Just found the reply she sent me when I asked how they had done.
I'll ask how it went on Friday.I don't know! I think we came fourth, sadly - not for want of trying! Strangely most people round here couldn't get the hang of the idea that they would give us money if we just vote - suspicion of the internet I think! Plus lots of people don't have computers. We're hopeful of a grant from Carillion, who have some money to spend on the locals in return for buildings schools for the future. A guy at church who does grant funding stuff for a living applied for £10k, and when he and Nick went to see them they started talking about giving us £35k!!
Re: Appeal
Appeal of a different sort
Our vicar (a lovely chap - very much "what you see is what you get" who says exactly what he is thinking!) is on holiday in Austria with his family. I heard yesterday that his son, aged about 14 or 15 I think, has had a serious accident. He is in intensive neuro care with bleeding in the brain and a crushed left jaw and eye socket. They are praying that the bleeding will abate or the hospital will need to operate. But he will need other operations anyway. for anybody that does pray, please pray for Joe.

Re: Appeal
Well, I don't pray, but I do wish him well.

Re: Appeal
What a tragedy..... he and his family will certainly be in my prayers - they will all need a lot of support at such a time.
Re: Appeal
Update, for those who are interested.
Joe seems to be out of danger but has a long way to go. The bleeding abated. And when the surgeons did a second scan prior to sorting out the splinters of bone around his eye socket they found that miraculously they had moved away so that op wasn't needed. He then had a 4 hour operation on Friday to wire up his jaw and the side of his face. This seems to have gone well. He can't move his head or speak and will not be allowed to travel home yet because of possible air pressure problems on a plane or in the tunnel. So his mother is staying with him and his father and sisters arrived home this evening.
Apparently he was on the wrong ski run by mistake, when he got into difficulties and crashed into a metal fence post!
Someone on a cable car saw him and phoned the emergency services.

Re: Appeal
Relieved to know he is out of danger - I had been wondering about him. What an awful experience for them - and not easy to know what to do about getting him home again. Thanks for the update.
