So, this time last year, one of my piano pupils told me she was doing her gold Duke of Edinburgh award and asked if she could come to my Brownies for the service section of it. I said yes of course! She's been a great help and never seemed to finish her service, even though her year is officially up. Today I received a letter through the post from her college saying thank you for letting her stay on to do her college service in the community project with Brownies for the rest of this year! She hasn't even mentioned it to me! My other D of E service volunteer casually said the other week, 'Oh, yeah, I think I'll carry on coming when I've finished, cos it's fun.' This is the 14yr old who had to be taught how to make icing, before she could help the Brownies! Ah well, all in all, one rather happy Brownie leader here!!! :D

no its a cheating PAYG mobile phone company ;-)

they dont do phones just sims

the dont do technical support... you do
(and get paid for it sort of)

and the prices are comparable to good contract phones
for example the £10 bundle lasts a month and includes 250 mins of calls truely unlimited texts and truely unlimited internet
free phone numbers are free and out side of bundles costs are cheap (6p for a text)

you do need an unlocked phone though ;-)

What is an unlocked phone?

I have PAYG and £10 lasts me a couple of months, I put £30 or £40 on every 6 months or so. A contract would be wasted on me.

I agree that PAYG is often the best solution.
I must admit that I have finally switched to an Android phone on a contract though because they have finally reached the point where a single device can just about replace my camera, MP3 player and GPS with the added bonus of mobile internet and I can even make a phone call on it as well in an emergency.

I went to Carphone warehouse the other day to top up the kids phones and I wanted £20 for one £30 for another and £40 for the third. Bizarrely they couldn't cope with a top up of more than £20, so I ended up with a 3 foot long receipt with lots of little top ups.

Well all I can say is I'd be happy to have a phone- any phone. I watered the landline phone along with the plants ages ago so I have sticky keys and can't dial out on it. Not a problem until the mobile fiasco because I never used it to dial out anyway. I should be back in the land of communications by 6pm tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath after the week I've had and it has got even worse again. But this is the anti-whinge thread so I wont continue :D

This one is in praise of Mr PH JONES, a Leeds family based firm. My boiler half packed up on Saturday so no heating. It finished itself on Sunday and no hot water either. The earliest he could come and see was Wednesday but he rang me at 12.30 today and said he had a cancellation slot and could he come now. I need a new part that will take a couple of days to receive and fit. Could he drop off any fan heaters on loan for heat and did I have an electric shower?. If not I could have a daily courtesy room at no extra charge until its repaired. I'm truly gobsmacked at the excellent service.

No, no, no, you don't tell anyone. Otherwise he's got lots of work and has no time to do yours.

Well if I'm ever taking my boiler for a walk through Leeds and it breaks down I will know who to call.

Does it have a little hole drilled in the wall??

That does sound truly impressive. :D

I would like to give a big cheer to the white van man from Axis Alarms, who saw my favourite shopping bag get blown out of my shopping trolley, and ran the full width of the Tesco car park to retrieve it for me. He then came back and helped me oik my trolley wheel out of the hole in the road that it had got stuck in (there is building work going on there). What a nice man. :D

If any of you shop at ASDA and like me are too lazy to do that compare the prices thing.....DO IT NOW! I have just checked 6 receipts to see if I could have got the stuff cheaper elsewhere.

There was a saving on all of them ranging from £2.85 to £8.56 and on top of that four of them qualified for an extra £5 because I had qualified for a voucher after 17th October. A grand total of over £50 of vouchers. It wasn't quick and easy, but for 20 minutes hassle it was good pay!

That's a result! :D

Sainsbury's run a slightly different thing whereby their system compares the cost of any branded goods you buy with the prices at Asda and Tesco. And you get a voucher for the excess if any. The first week I got a voucher for 1p  But I don't buy many branded items as well over half is fresh fruit, veg and meat etc. Then I buy mainly own brand stuff otherwise. This week I got a slip of paper telling me I'd saved 48p by shopping with them.

I just wish I had the willpower to check things like that, but I don't because I am a lazy moo. My outlook is: I need it, I want THAT type / brand and my life is too short to worry about it, so I will just buy it and forget about it. But that really is a truly impressive saving, I must say. Although the only Asda around here is right in the middle of the town centre, and I have twice had dodgy meat from there, so I refuse to shop in it. So I alternate between Tesco, Sainsbury and Waitrose, depending on how rich I am feeling.

I fell out with Sainsburys over the state of their carrots! ASDA is much closer (We have 3 ASDAs in our town, but one doesn't do food. ) Waitrose is miles away and inconvenient to park and expensive. Tesco is just too big!

When I got my first voucher I thought this was good, then as I drove home the implication of the 'con' hit me. [I must have been having a 'slow' day  ]

They KNOW the price of things elsewhere... if they were interested in 'the customer' they could make their price the same (or less). Instead they leave their price higher and give you a voucher to bribe you into coming back within a certain time limit to spend MORE money with them (the profit of which goes towards the money they're giving you back).

Those customer that don't return in time have been charged a higher price than Sainsbury's rivals. Those that do return give them more money. Sounds like a "Win / Win" to me.
