I feel like I'm reminiscing about meets today. First of all 'Allo 'Allo! was on earlier and now there is a programme about Bletchley Park! :D

I'm watching that too. But I can't reminisce about that meet because at that point I was still too scared to turn up.

MERCURY and ASBESTOS plus somebody else's sleeping tablets. Anyone want anyone poisoned? Very reasonable rates...

Yes please and you know who...

...been making the christmas cake

.. and this person refused to stir it and make a wish as he doesn't believe in that sort of thing, but he's done it for 13 years so along with santa and the tooth fairy so he may at the ripe old age of 39 lose all his teeth and get no christmas presents!!!!!

I know always make it the sunday of half term then feed it booze every other week till Chrismas week when it is iced (or in my case Chocolated as I hate icing)

make a square one and cut into 4 quarters 3 for friends who are the only ones in their family who will eat christmas cake and a quater for us as OH and I are the only ones who eat it here (well it will only be me I suppose this year won't it)

Oh, I make one massive Christmas cake, and then Dibble has usually consumed the lot within about a week...

And actually, I don't like icing either. But I always put it on because it's traditional. I don't really know why I make a cake, or mince pies, or any of those things, because we are so stuffed after Christmas dinner that we don't eat anything else. But that's probably something to do with the 7 or 8 vegetables I make...(they are the best bit!)

I always dread Christmas. Mum had started the guilt trip already, but the new house (if we get it) has very steep steps up to it and we will never make it unless we crane her in ! So not sure what we will do this year I can feel a row brewing already.

So Bunny 7 or 8 veg I thought I was the only idiot to do that (number 1 son prefers veg to meat really and seo we have to have the works)

Me too. It's not the same without a cantankerous old lady insisting that she eats on the dot of 1 30 and then making us all watch the Queen...and me being proudly presented with a giant box of Ferrero Rocher (which I hate). And of course, this year I might not even have K here, as she now has her own house. I'll miss the two big galloots climbing into our bed at 8am, and if Dibble doesn't have his bright-and -early sister waking him up, he'll probably sleep until lunchtime. I feel like not bothering, actually.

I'm sure we could rustle up a cantankerous old lady from someone on the forum for you. We seem to be able to cover all other requests on the clever sods thread. Anyone got one they can offer???

Nothing wrong with making a Christmas cake in October (says the person who did it on the 19th!). It gives it time to mature in time for the big day. Though mine only gets the brandy treatment once, but the fruit is soaked overnight in rum and the mixture includes sherry!

And I thought the 'stir and make a wish' was for the pudding, rather than the cake?

We don't have Christmas pudding, we have Cloo'y Dumpling here, complete with silver charms and sixpences.

Either the chocolate OR the icing (or both) will do me - it's the fruit cake I'm not keen on  This probably explains why my only Christmas cake is a chocolate log ;)
