 I was quite tempted to invite our health and safety dragon round to Mum's garage, to introduce her to PROPER health and safety issues (mercury, sleeping tablets and asbestos). Sixpences and charms would pale into insignificance...

We have steamed syrup sponge made on Christmas Eve. No coins in it though. Something else MIL will moan about no doubt as she likes Christmas pud.

Yup, that's me. I'd very happily do without all the turkey and other stuff and eat a big plate of veg.

.....rewriting my CV. The last one is over 12 years old and therefore rather out of date. It mentions having two children at primary school. They have now both finished University, got jobs and left home!

The format of CVs has significantly changed over the past 10 or so years. It would be a good idea to check that out properly so that you come across as being as up to date as possible.

oh dear. That's blown it for me then. I'm a bit old for schools' career advice. :(

I'm a bit old for this lark altogether I think.

Any helpful hints?

I made my Christmas cake back in February. I always make 3 cakes, 2 small and one large. The only reason I made it then was because I wanted one small one for my dad's 90th in April, the other small one for my mum's 90th birthday which was 2 weeks ago and then that leaves the large one for us at Christmas. Usually I make them in September.
As to feeding it after making it I do it the other way. I put all the dried fruit in a bowl and soak it with sherry and brandy for up to a week before I make it makes a lovely moist boozy cake.

Puddings AND cantankerous old ladies? Sounds just like a traditional Christmas. And Tricia - this is the ONLY cooking my husband does all year, and I have to admit that he does a really good job of it. Anything else he cooks is hateful.

Bunny:-
When should I arrive for Christmas? and should I bring anything? Cos I may just be in a cardboard box by then.. I can be very cantankerous

I have had to get a provisional driving licence today to enable me to buy a house! then the solicitor told me the completion will be between 8 and 12 weeks (but as it is a repossession it should be done within 4 weeks, so I have been told!) :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

 Why in heaven's name do you need a provisional driving licence to buy a house? I've never heard anything so daft!!

And flipping solicitors drag things out on purpose so they can justify their enormous bills IMHO.

You could always come and stay in the mercury and asbestos house. It's empty (apart from badgers and foxes in the garden...

I don't have a passport (I never leave the country) and I don't drive and have no intension of ever doing so, but to prove I am not a drug dealing money launderer they have tohave photo ID and my photo ID badge from work is no good. Best thing is as I'm moving house it will only be valid until I leave this one :x

...Being depressed by the gloom. I don't know what it is like anywhere else, but it's been so gloomy and dark all day, I feel positively caged in. It suddenly seems impossible that a week and a half ago I was walking round Eynsford with LAT, Looby, MBH and SparkOut in the bright sunshine and sitting in the pub garden!! We had to have all the lights on in the classrooms, even though the blinds were open.

Sunny here, but went overcast and dark early this afternoon.

I parked the car in a carpark this afternoon and had to move to a different space because I was too fat to get out! (Carpark with silly narrow spaces and big car is my excuse)

Bunny, I teach in a cupboard with no windows (well, a practise room technically, but still). You have the option at least. It's quite interesting though when you emerge after half a day of teaching and go 'Oh, it's sunny!' or whatever, as I arrive before it's light at the moment!!!

I had the overwhelming urge to take my hideous year 11 PE lot outside to do some real PE (they were doing theory). And for me to want to do running about type PE is quite something...
