Oh bunny, that's awful. We had water come through the lounge ceiling when they fitted the new boiler. Very annoying as it had just been decorated, but at least the ceiling didn't come down.

I feel for you. I wouldn't reccomend this but it worked for me when my son flooded our bathroom. I poked a tiny hole in the dining room ceiling where the water was coming through and released the weight of the water from the bulge. The ceiling stayed put and I caught the water in a couple of buckets so no water damage below.

I was just wondering about doing that...

Worked for me - when I had a leak from shower above kitchen... As Gill says releases the weight of the water... And didn't take much to repair ceiling.

Yes we punched a hole in the lounge ceiling.
(Now have hole and watermark  but ceiling stayed up)

At least it's not as bad as my son had to contend with shortly after moving into a flat in london. There the water was pouring through, literally, from the flat above. But yes, releasing the pressure should be a good idea.

Today I've drunk the first alcohol I've had for months. Not for any particular reason, just I'm usually going out teaching and when I get back I'd rather have tea and chocolate. Anyhow, I've had one can of cider, and I can't walk in a straight line, and I'm finding Have I Got News For You and QI absolutely hilarious. Worrying. :?

Oh, I normally enjoy them. Just not to quite the extent I did last night. Alan Davies is HILARIOUS when I'm a bit tipsy! And, hurray, no headache this morning, which is always good.

And Bunnylump, yes I'd definitely be a cheap date. I'd far rather have fish and chips and a big mug of tea than something fancy. I don't have expensive tastes in anything.

Well, I'm so unfussy with food that I can equally enjoy fish and chips and a cup of tea OR exclusive fine dining and fine wines. So there you go, all (any) offers gratefully accepted.  Not that I ever get any these days, I hasten to add... even from my husband. The trouble is that he is such a smooth talker. If I ask to be taken out anywhere, I get things like "Well, I would, but every time we go out I always end up thinking that you could cook something much nicer. And I would far rather be at home with you, a nice meal and a bottle of wine, than go out to an expensive restaurant and eat substandard food." What can I say to that?? :?:

Consequently my thrilling date today consisted of visiting the plumber's merchants to look at new radiators. Now isn't that just SPECIAL?? Oh, and to add to the general air of excitement, I also have tonsillitis. :| I really do know how to live, don't I?

Oh sorry about the tonsillitus, poor you! :(

I had a thrilling date with an AA man this morning. I turned the corner off a main road not too far from home and the clutch went. I managed to bring the car into the side of the road as far as I could get from the junction. The clutch pedal was just useless. Anyway after a longish wait the AA man appeared, took one look at it and fiddled about for half a minute then announced it was fixed! :o He did then search for a while for something to make the fix more permanent but I was on my way eventually. And so much better than what I had envisaged of a trip to the garage followed by a large invoice. :D
I think I love the AA man. :D

We had a brilliant AA man who came out to help us when the barrier went through the bottom of the engine. He said that REALLY what he should do was to get us towed all the way home (at huge cost - we were in Guildford at the time). However, what he ACTUALLY did was to bodge it sufficiently by yanking things back into place with his tow rope so we could drive it home. :D He'd probably get the sack from the AA if they found out, but hey ho.

My ister took me out for lunch today ....went to our favourite pub and had fish and chips which was lovely - I should say the fish was a whale and they asked if we wanted bread and butter with it :o

Hope you get better soon Bunny - Tonsilitis is horrible

Thank you. I'm regretting walking to the plumber's now. I have tonsils like ulcerated golf balls and now feel completely rubbish. :( Hence I haven't moved from my sofa (and computer) for the rest of the afternoon. :| This has been brewing all week. Poor LAT has had me grumping at her all week about feeling under the weather and miserable. Now I know why.

But I do hope you start to feel better soon.

been to a big Christmas fayre at Westpoint today and discovered Treasure Trails. These are walking, cycling and driving trails all over the country and they are either Murder mysteries, treasure hunts or spy trails, maybe worth a look for the next meet as most of the hard work looks like it has already been done. They are £5.99 a pack

It was one of those we did when a few of us met up (me. the Giraffes, Scurra, Looby) in the Cotswolds. It was good from the point of view that we got to see different bits of the village, but we found some of the clues a bit hard (or impossible) to find. But that could have just been us being rubbish, of course. They are a really good idea, and yes, I agree, a good idea for a meet. I know Giraffe was looking for some in her area at one point as a possibility. And then somehow I found myself volunteering to organise something here. How did that happen?

So is it all down to Devon next time then? :D ;)
