Winter

#1 Post by tricia » Mon Dec 05, 2011 6:55 am

Its arrived.................................SNOWWoke up this morning and everything is white and it is still snowing. The gritters were out last night. From what I can see from the window, the main road is passible, but it is getting out onto the main road. I shall just have to take my time...if it is too bad I will go for the bus ;)

Breakfast news just said we might get wintry showers here today. There is frost on the cars for the first time this morning.

There was hail on the cars this morning, but a friend who lives on Saddleworth Moors reports a covering of snow there.

I thought of you when I was watching the news this morning, Tricia.

I had thick ice to scrape off the windscreen this morning, but bizarrely, I still have:
pansies, geraniums, fuchsias, winter jasmine, roses magnolia and camellias flowering simultaneously in the garden. I also still have apples on the tree and snowberries.

I still have a few raspberries!
And most of the aforementioned flowers.
No ice this morning but I did have some a week or so ago.

I'm in Withernsea at the moment. We commented last night that this time last year it was -17, today its +4.5. 23.5 degrees difference is amazing.

That said, I've just spoken to someone in Leeds who tells me it snowed last night, but it didn't settle but its coming down quite heavily right now.

We had snow last night and the mountains look completely spectacular! The ice wasn't too bad this morning either - though the playground was a skating rink. I just hate falling - there's no good way to fall with dignity and the kids laugh mercilessly.

It is scary out there, on my way home from work I saw houses with damaged windows and some branches broken off. Watched from the Kitchen as my neighbours hut was lifted and smashed.

We are fairly used to getting some high winds .. But I dont remember getting so many warnings as this one. The police have issued warnings -do not drive in the central belt between 2pm and 7pm.

The Erskine bridge which is causing chaos.

However I am in as is my sister, and am hoping for it to die down soon

Do stay safe, Tricia. We haven't had anything like that here, although it is starting to get a bit wild outside. Earlier on we had horizontal rain...

Seconded. Hope you keep safe Tricia and don't suffer any damage.

It's starting to sound a bit wild here too but nothing like what you have up in Scotland.

Why shouldn't she be going for a tax lesson? Or even a fax lesson?

Oooooh.... I never thought of that.
