That's a real shame, Tricia. It would have been lovely to meet you. Should we think about another date, if SparkOut, Eirian and Tricia can't come?

What? No comment? No witty retort? What's going on? Scurra, you are slipping...

I have a suggestion. As cheap train fares aren't up yet for 20th April how about we have a show of hands for those who defiinitely would come if the price was right and dates when you COULD make it or would prefer. Then a show of hands for those who aren't sure yet but are maybe's- together with a list of dates when you think would be best for you. Then we go for the majority date for definites followed by possibles. I have made myself a chart so I can fill in all permutations. April or May is of no concern to me. Nor is June. lets miss out the bank holiday weekends for all the reasons already given.

I have checked out trains from KC to Hull using Cross Country trains. I could get a £20 return for Friday 30/3 and Sunday 1/4 at suitable times- but that was by booking 2 singles. To book the return would have brought it in at £50.

I'd be really interested to hear how you get that fare Gill. When I have looked the cheapest outward fare I could find was £18.
I was looking at return journeys but at the single fares. I also looked at single journeys for the outward part and the same fares came up.
Fares at the times I was looking at for the return part of the journey were showing as £30 but I didn't fiddle with that time so don't know if it could have been cheaper earlier (or later).

Hmm. seems the £10 fare outwards is at 9.48 in the morning which is quite early for those who need to travel into town first.
Return the cheapest I could find is £11.25 but that was far too late as it didn't arrive until after 11 at night. Not much good for onward travellers.
But there are fares at more sensible times which would total between £38 and £50 which I don't think is too bad.
However if I came with Looby and/or Bunny I might well come by car in any case.

Cant find the £10 return single anymore Lat- It was there, I didn't imagine it :? Do these change daily? I had early afternoon departures both Friday and Sunday but I agree they aren't showing now.

I have cornered my husband and got him to check his diary. If he goes to Beijing it looks like his meetings are 23 24 26 and 27th April, so either the weekend of 20th or the following one look a bit dodgy for me. Having said that I suspect there is at least a 50% chance that he will wriggle out of going to Beijing. Sorry still unable to be much more definite, so don't plan anything around me. :(

That's because there are only a very few tickets at that price, and clearly someone bought them! Hence being able to book the full 12 weeks in advance will improve the chances of getting the really good rates.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.

I would be pretty definite as long as I can organise my getting there with someone. However, as previously stated, am happy to back down if other dates suit more people. As long as it doesn't cost more than about £80 or so to get there, then that's not a problem. Happy to share food costs / help out with cooking etc. if needed.

Well I don't think February is a goer. I can't do the first two weekends or the last one anyway.
Other than that I prefer to avoid bank holidays and Easter. And I can't do March 9th.
However until I know if/when I might get a new job I won't know for certain but if something is booked I would hope at least to be able to get away in time to get up there early evening on the Friday.
Price isn't too much of an issue but I am one of the options for travelling companion for Bunnylump so I have a preference for dates she can manage. ;)

I will be there if I can and I will drive which might affect the plans of some people close to me geographically.

I can't do weekends Feb 25th or April 7th or 14th. March 3rd or 24th would be difficult ( but not necessarily impossible)

I would prefer after May 1st as I finish my 6 year stint as a church steward then so won't have to worry about reorganising Sunday duties. However if April 21st is most people's preferred weekend then that would be fine.
