Re: Today I've mostly bin...
My OH took my grandson ice skating for the first time at xmas. I told Daniel that everyone had to fall down the same number of times before they would be able to skate. Usually he'd have given up due to embarrassment but he told me he'd get as many of his falls out the way that day. He was confidently sort of skating after half an hour but his bruises were numerous and his trousers saoked
Daughters partner took him again after we left - all 6'4" of him- and Daniel came out with a wonderful description. "He did a starfish bomber grandma, his arms and legs were everywhere"

I'd have taken you skating LAT - one of the skills I did pick up in my young-teenage years that has never vanished. [I get on the ice about once every three years, and always seem to be able to stay upright]

Ok - Gill is there an ice rink on the camp site? (somehow my hopes aren't high!)

Do you want me to tell you that there is a huge rink in Hull or not ?

Obviously the complete antithesis of me. I have trouble standing on two feet. Let alone two slippery bits of metal on ICE.MBH wrote:I'd have taken you skating LAT - one of the skills I did pick up in my young-teenage years that has never vanished. Well, don't blame him for shutting out riff-raff like you. This is an exclusive forum for people who don't eat half chewed chocolates. (Wondered where you'd got to!!! Nice to have you back!)

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
...Out for a walk on my own in the sunshine. It's lovely out there today - crisp and bright. The Apostle's Pond was frozen over - at least an inch and a half of ice on it. VERY tempting, but even I'm not THAT stupid!! I did enjoy jumping up and down on the icy puddles though to smash then instead. Very satisfying. Almost came a cropper when I was about half way round my walk (about 5 miles) because the exit from the field I was in was full of cows, who had no intention of moving for me. I eventually managed to squeeze past them through all the mud, and just as I was climbing over the style, one started weeing, and missed me by about an inch!!
It always amazes me when my girl friends say things like "I don't like walking on my own. It's too scary". What's wrong with them? My view is that if I came across some weirdo he'd probably come off worse than me- I'm not exactly what you could describe as "weak" or "frail"!! There's nothing better to sort out your head than to have a high speed tramp round the countryside on your own. Preferably with either a big hill you can run down (or I have even been known to ROLL down when nobody's looking!) or with some diversion like a river to paddle in or some lovely icy puddles to smash.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
SUCCESSFULLY (yay) managing to organise 19 relatives from Devon (including the Exmoor beasties), Dorset, and Hertfordshire on the same date and got a pub booked in Studland for us all to stay. Managed to negotiate a single night stay only (despite the fact they maintained that they only accepted bookings for both nights at weekends). Feeling very smug. It's a really nice pub, just in case anyone ever is down that way - very near Old Harry, and it's called the Bankes Arms. It was where I recouperated with my bashed up knees and bruises and soaking wet jeans while Jackie went to hospital a few months ago...hopefully this time it will be a bit less traumatic!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
How's this for a contradiction?
I mentioned to my friend that I was half heartedly dieting and quite liked the look of Slimming World recipes etc.
Last night she brought me the entire series of slimming world cookbooks - and a box of 12 Ferrero Rocher
I wonder what she was trying to say

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Been to a concert tonight at Birmingham Junior Conservatoire. Their Symphony Orchestra and Wind Orchestra, Kingsley plays clarinet in both. It was very good, Grieg's Peer gynt Suite No 2 and Elgar's Wand of Youth from the symphony orchestra and Saint-Saens Grand March "Orient and Occident" and Charivari by Malcolm Binney from the windy lot. I wasn't too keen on the first two movements of the Binney, but Izzy had plenty of solo / duet bits in that, so i could actually hear her, but the rest was really nice.
I'm shattered now though, having to drive into the centre of Birmingham for the second night in a row, and it was really windy on the M6 tonight. Birmingham actually looks quite pretty at night from the top of spaghetti junction, with it all laid out beneath you.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I've bin to see Les Miserables at the Boxmoor Playhouse. It was an amateur production which I went to see because my friend's son was in it. It was nice to get out of the house and to be doing something which wasn't looking at the telly, but to be honest musicals are NOT my thing. And (sorry, controversial) basically it was a load of sentimental slushy hogwash with very poor music. But what do I know?
