That's a nifty idea. (Any chance I could say something here that you could comment about in the next post and confuse the hell out of people. Or look silly?)

It's there because I'm an idiot. (So no surprise then.)
Well, it isn't there now, which makes this posting look silly.
Or I could just delete my posting and make yours look silly instead. :)

Never even heard of this guy Asprin before, but went to library today and found a couple on the shelves - will let you know what I think in a day or two.

Silly is what I do best. Why would I worry? (even though, had you deleted your post, I could've deleted mine too)

:) That's exactly why I started this thread - it's good to find out what others in the gang know, and maybe gain some new reading directions.

Some of the series I've gotten into were due to other staff in the libraries who know me saying "You know what you would enjoy?....."

Cool new feature Scurra 8-)

I think she's not let anyone except Todd (her son) write in Pern, but she regularly lets other writers explore her other creations.
I think Todd is doing an excellent job - and gives us Pern lovers a hope for the future - she is getting on a bit, after all!
Not that I've checked bookshops for a while to see what's out now - I just can't afford it!!! (that's space as much as money...)

That's not entirely true - only Todd (her son) has ever been allowed to write official Dragonrider novels. There has been lots of fan fiction (but then the smart writers don't object to this!) but no other writers have done so.

Lots of other writers have written in the other universes she has created (usually credited as co-authors) but they've never been allowed near Pern

Well, I've been to Cambridge for the weekend, which means I have returned home with two new archaeology books. Don't quite know why this is, but every time I go to stay with my sister, I end up in the cheap book shop which has a big archaeology section, and therefore I spend money on big hardback books that are too big for my bookcase.

No, Clvrlad. You're meant to read BOOKS not shorts.

Well that's why I specifically mentioned fan fiction. There are plenty of "unofficial" Pern stories floating around on the 'net.

But are they all written on people's bottoms?

Suddenly I'm beginning to wonder exactly what kind of sites you've been visiting...maybe I should get Mrs. MBH to have some "parental controls" added!

You've never heard of "slash" fiction then, I take it? (And no, fernando and kingsley shouldn't go searching for any to find out. Mind you, neither should most of the rest of us... Rampant Rabbits excluded, naturally.)

Rampant Rabbits are really very naive.
