How far are you planning on walking clvrlad? If you want picked up in Hull then David arrives at 4pm and Supersleuth at 5pm so it would be good to aim for that kind of time. Both by train. I am most likely to meet David at 4 and have a coffee with him and wait for Supersleuth. At that time of day on a Friday I'm unlikely to do a turnaround journey anyway as its a 30 min drive each way off peak.

Nearer the time I'd like ETA's. I'm going to give Lat one of the booking confirmation letters for one of the hired vans so that if they arrive while I'm out collecting people they can collect keys themselves. I have the other confirmation for anyone else who might need it if they plan to arrive at a similar time. I'm also happy to get a couple of spare keys for my van and post them to anyone who thinks they might also need something.

don't worry too much
I've all ready worked out the buses from hull to the caravan park ;-)
75 leaves hull interchange hourly (at 15 mins past the hour taking about 1:10 to get to Withernsea)

and got an os map covering where the park is just in case the bus driver tries to get me lost

it's about 12 miles to Hessle which is where the Wolds Way officially starts
(I'm technically working it backwards )
then about 5 miles more to hull (following the Trans-Pennine way)

should take about 6 hours or a bit more if i relax and enjoy the scenery and a picnic
so i might just be in hull about 5pm if not ill make it eventually ;-)

The bus driver won't get you lost. The 75 service terminates just yards away. :D

My heart sank this morning because I fear you lot could well be up for this and I'll be looked on in a different light forever more. I got my events calendar this morning. Saturday April 21st is school disco evening- dress up in school uniform.
I'm hoping to persuade you all instead that if you do want to go out on Saturday evening then you'd rather take a stroll along the sea front and end up in the local pub that usually has a live singer every Friday & Saturday. No kids jumping up and down and screaming. I wont know until I go back (probably next weekend) if live entertainment is still the case. The landlady is 84 and knows exactly how to run a pub. Cheapest beer in Withernsea- spirit measures are 35 ml so be warned(and its the real stuff, not cheap substitutes)- always so warm you can go in a t-shirt - and a really old fashioned pub.

In fairness I think WE should be the judge of that, don't you?

With thoughts about the 'teaching' element of the weekend, and in order to avoid messing the thread up (as people dive in with 'answers' to others questions), I'll be accepting PMs for what people might want to learn while a selection of puzzling computer users are around. I'll be bringing a disk or stick with some old 'worked' puzzles on but I don't want to spend time on what everybody already knows.

So sentences starting with "What would you use to...." or "Is it possible to take.... and .....". Any links to specific example puzzles are a bonus. Oh - questions from puzzle setters as well as solvers are fine - I've thought of a 'PAINT' example of how to make a particular style of puzzle neat and in line.

Nothing I tell you will ever be THE way to do things, just the way I would go about it. There are 1001 to aproach a puzzle and probably 5% of them would work (guess which ones I tend to use - ).

Oh! I hadn't realised the tuition was only for methods useful for puzzle solving. :(

That is simply the flimsy premise I'm visiting under ;) The same vertical look-up that I showed you for finding the descriptions of products is exactly the technique I use for some cypher solving.... Ask away

Well, as the last time I sent Scurra something I had done on Paint, he said "For goodness sake, you REALLY need to learn how to use graphics software properly!" you will understand that I have a very long list. I have sent you a teeny selection of stupid questions.

well I would actually quite like to see what sort of questions are being asked as it might help me to think of things I have no idea about. I always find questions along the lines of "what do you want to learn?" rather difficult to answer as if I don't know it can be done I won't know to ask how.

Does that make any sense? I know what I mean but I'm not sure it came out very clearly.

I did have a couple of things I was going to ask about but not really anything to do with puzzle solving.

He might find "what is the meaning of life the universe and everything" a bit tricky...

I do know what you mean. I haven't really a clue what I COULD do.

I wasn't meaning questions like that!
For instance though, I haven't the foggiest idea how I would use Paint to solve any puzzles and it would never have occurred to me that I could. So until you mentioned it I wouldn't have thought of asking about that.

Aaah. You obviously already have the answer to that question. What a wise lady you are. Would you be able to run a workshop on the meaning of life? I think I know as much about paint as I do about the meaning of life...

LAT
look at it this way
what do you struggle to do?
what takes you ages to do (even if you think it should take ages)?
what annoys you about a program?

I'm with Lat & Bunny. I 'd like to learn h0w to to use paint too. I know nothing- and I mean nothing

Excel annoys me when it auto colours boxes that I haven't asked it to . Badly worded but I dont know how else to word it. I use excel in a very basic way. I'm sure there are tips & tricks that I know nothing about so I'd be happy to have a dummies demo on that too.

Word annoys me. It always seems to think it knows what I want when it doesn't.
I had rather more specific requests on Excel, I don't need the dummies demo on that and could probably help to give it!

I'm not going, but it sounds like a good lesson would be 'how to turn off all the "helpful" features in MS Office  (that's always the first thing I do when I install the thing. Nothing annoys me more that Word telling me that I really wanted to format the list in this particular way!)
