I had a nice bonus at the Garden Centre when we were wandering round looking at climbing plants - I was looking for a new clematis to grow up a fence that we have just had repaired. And I suddenly spotted one called "Countess of Lovelace" - a really gorgeous double-flowered blue variety of the 'Nelly Moser' type that tends to flower both early and late (gardeners will know what I mean and might be interested to lo it up :D ).
Some of you may remember a previous correspondence in one of the threads where I sang the praises of Lady Ada Lovelace (Lord Byron's daughter!) who was a remarkable mathematician who worked with Babbage on developing the computer. My interest in her only arose because we happen to live in Lovelace Crescent here in Exmouth - where Lady Byron and her daughter lived for a while. I was curious about the name and found the connection. Ada has been a star for me ever since. What a nice coincidence :D

Absolutely. But only after Gill has blown the candles out and spat all over it.  (Don't you just hate that when little kids blow the candles out and you can see all the spit globules going over the cake, and then their brother / sister has to have a go at blowing them out too because they are jealous, so more spit??? )
