Orienteering

#1 Post by Vladikavkaz » Thu May 03, 2012 10:46 am

Some of you may know that I've been on a fitness drive for the last year or so, with the unintentional sharing of calorie burn logs with the google group...

I've started orienteering in the last few months (I'm ranked a mighty 3564th in the country at the moment!) and have just purchased an electronic timer, that has a unique code to identify me when I take part.

If you believe in coincidences*, have a look at the id number

*If you don't, then it's highly likely I chose the number, but where's the romance in that...

All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

For those of us of a dim disposition, care to tell me what I am supposed to be noticing? It's not the numbers from lost is it?

Ah, Vlad. You're such a square. Now if you'd got 221214 I would have been far more impressed...

Orienteering sounds like great fun. I've never done it (well apart from stupid kids in woods on school trips). I think it's something I ought to try. I like being outdoors, like walking, like mapreading (yes, I know I'm not a real girl - I don't like shopping or shoes either).

Oh, don't worry. I'm proud of the fact I'm not a real girl. Apart from the hatred of shoes / shopping and enjoyment of map reading I could certainly live without chocolate. When I was younger I used to prefer making mortar and replacing bricks in the chimney (that was before the fear of heights started) than doing girly pursuits. And my best toy was Bettabuilder (bit like Lego). I go to work and listen to them all going on about things to do with celebrities and these shows like Strictly Come X Factor and wonder if I'm off a different planet.

Vlad, have you ever tried Geocaching? I've often thought that sounds like good fun too.

I used to do orienteering as a teenager.

Geocaching that's cheating. Letterboxing on Dartmoor much more of a challenge.

you get clues to locations
sometimes as in geo caching its the grid reference
other times its a series of bearings and distances
other times its straight clues

here is a list of "clues"
