Scenarios ;-)

#1 Post by clvrlad » Thu Feb 26, 2009 12:29 am

ok the backround to these scenarios is that they are from a roleplay game and these challenges were designed to be a competition between groups and they artificially limited the charactors actions....

so they count as normal people and they players level was irrrelavent
thus making them apt challenges no mater how heroic the party was.

but the teams were allways 4 people ;-)

so im lucking for people to join in ;-)
there is a total of 10 scenarios for you to die hopelessly in ;-)
preferably in groups of four ;-)
reply below with your own discusions (like i could stop you)

Well I would reply with something sensible, but I don't understand what you mean, sorry. I've never done any role playing (well, not that I'd tell you lot about, anyway! )

I might join in when I understand what's involved...

basically
each scenario is a problem solving challenge
and the players (you guys and gals...oh and small purple duracel bunnies)
try to think what you could do to solve it. ;-)
there is a premade hint which may or may not be useful since you might have past teh point its useful or not reached that bit yet...

for example ill describethe first scenario i have planned
Chess Anyone??

Welcome thank you for joining in in our grand contest
you are the tenth team for our game
you are lead into a square room about 7 yards wide
a 10 ft square pit occupies one corner and a round chess table some 4 feet wide an other.
you are met by julian the guild wizard in charge of the first challenge
"good day challenges here is your starting equipment two bags one white one black.
one of them is a bag of devouring the other a bag of holding its upto you to detetrmine which is which, the bag of holding contains an immoveable rod and 10ft of rope both should accomplish this task.
your task is to get safely to the bottom of the 50ft deep pit"

the sdes of the pit are perfectly somothe so any attempt to climb will fail
also please note the spikes at the bottom weve taken the liberty of coating them with a very deadly poison, if you manage to get down there safely you should be able to manuver round the spikes and out the exit.
if you dont feel upto the challenge perhapse you'd rather spend some time playing a quick game of chess? no? then you may begin

10 points scored for each person who makes it through the door safely
but only 5 points for each person who leave after the hint

hmmm i think theres three things i have to explain
firstly a immovable rod
is a rod :-) about 2 inches wide and three feet long with a button on the end when you press it it makes the rod fix in place...becomes immovable (hence the name) mid air against a door down some pants where ever (very useful device)
if you press it again it frees the rod....ready to be become immovable again

bag of holding
is like the tardis bigger on the inside than the outside basically what you put inside it is kept elsewhere and the opening of the bag gives you access to the storage space

bag of devoring
just like a bag of holding but the bags opening is actually the mouth of an creature and it pulls in the items stuffed into it ( like eager bunnys paws :-p) and eats them

Well, someone has to jump in, I suppose. And probably land on poisoned spikes!

I'm in - if someone wants to join my gang :)

How about the Giraffe and her kids? Make it a 'family' game (like the 39 clues).

Who wants to join Team Swing? (Possibly a good team name for the first challeng). PM me and I'll get back to you later.

if you all want to be on one team i can cope with that ;-)
i do have pre exsisting "results" for other teams ;-)

Well that's a first. I've had the "1 new message" message quite a few times, and it's great talking one-to-one with my online friends... this is the first time I've seen "5 new messages"

Since half of my team will have gone to bed, and a second team is being formed (do we have a 3rd team anywhere??) I'll ask an obvious, practical question:

The immovable rod can be fixed anywhere - including in mid air (the original 'sky-hook'). CAN IT BE DETATCHED and re-used? The obvious answer is it must be able to (otherwise it's usefulness is very limited), but it does say on the box Immovable :?:

EDIT: OK, OK - I've gone back and re-read the definitions. Second use of the button. Got it :)

I propose we ask 'practical' questions like this in the thread - then everyone can benefit without giving away their game plan.

What weight can the rope take? Will it support our combined weights?

Can a bag of holding safely hold people and have them come out from wherever later on?

Hey, I'll join SparkOut and LAT. Then we can cut MBH's rope while he's swinging over the spikes and... that would count as giving away a game plan, wouldn't it?
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

NOT prompted by Scurra at all (I think we all know his 'alignment' ;) ), but does each team get an individual turn in the room, or are we all in together? From the wording of the 'greeting' I'm pretty sure of the answer - but if the opposite were true then there is a simple way for everyone to succeed :)
