Re: Winter
Turning the Winter thread into Weather - torrential rain here that means it's taken me 2 hours to drive the 8-9 miles home. Lightning strikes on the Tyne Bridge (which I'll go looking for the video of in a moment) and more rain than has ever been seen here in the UK.
Got home through a massive puddle in the sunshine, so took Maisie out to 'do the necessary' before another wave comes in.
Amazing weather, but not good for travel.

Re: Winter

It's been a beautiful, boiling hot, sunny day here today. I'm just about to go back out and sit in the garden again!!

It is - it's lovely here
HOwever the roads are in total gridlock and even though we are high up a hill I had to drive through a 2-foot deep puddle to get into the village.
Here's the video that was uploaded in no time at all. Bunny - you like bridgest - Enjoy!!!

Re: Winter
I haven't but I think a couple of people might a fraction of a second after that
They are talking about rain of 'biblical proportions' at the moment. The afternoon show that should have stopped at 5:30 has been extended and still going on to report on the problems.
Everybody is saying they have NEVER seen rain like this in the UK and those that have been abroad are taling about monsoon conditions.
I'm sure the weather will be lovely when you come
Bring the sun with you (or walk in the rain)

No sun here after I got home from work - too many tall trees around casting their shadow.

But it did look pretty sunny outside this afternoon.

Or alternatively sheltering in a bus stop.

Re: Winter
We had warm sunshine here as well - even sat out on the patio for our evening meal! Mind you, it was overdue- the local primary school were able to have their "fun day" today, having been totally washed out last week.....

Re: Winter
Just seen the wild weather on the BBC news. The potential headline 'Newcastle Drown' popped into my head. Then there's the floods in Shropshire, huge hailstones in Coventry and horizontal rain in Leicestershire.

I have just got in from Oxford, where we were sweltering, to find my poor son had to swim home from school at lunchtime. His bus was delayed as the road was flooded and they waited half an hour for the tide to go out a bit, and the water was lapping under the door as they were eventually cleared to drive on. Then as I wasn't around to meet the bus he had to walk three miles home from the bus stop, and was soaked to the skin by the time he got in. His shoes may well be a write off!

Ah! Gosforth Park. I can tell you that the Hoppings had a delayed opening but I don't know when it was supposed to open or if it ever did. I just know that there were some mighty unhappy children from that area.

Re: Winter
Danger Night was suposed to be last Friday night [The locals call the first night by that name as that is when you find out if all the nuts and bolts have been put in properly
] but it was delayed until some time on Sunday - still stupidly muddy and wellies were the only sensible footwear.
For some strange reason it was abandoned during last evening - LOL - Anyone for a ride on the Big Wheel ?
Just had word from a friend that went this evening who described it as 'putrid'
Not a good week for the showmen. They may try to stay on into next week but Saturday night is usually the last night before they drift off on Sundday.
It seems our weather hit the nationaal news but I never got to see what pictures and clips they showed. I did hear of canoeists roaming the streets of Heaton / Chillingham Road
Everybody has a tale to tell up here regarding "the Great Storm". [Ahhh, No.... That was the great wetness
] "Oh shut up Owen".
One smart-guy did point out that Thor's-day did live up to it's name. Yesterday's 2-hour trip I did in a tidy 20 minutes this evening.

Re: Winter
You certainly did hit the news. It looked really quite horrific!! Should I bring my SCUBA gear when I go on holiday just in case?
