They are clearly enjoying themselves!

Re: Music
Sunday evening and I'm sitting here in tears, remembering how much my Mum used to love this song. It is truly beautiful.

Re: Music
OK stopped blubbing now and listening to Portico Quartet instead. Mum would have hated this. But I think it's quite interesting.

Re: Music
Just listened to that - very interesting sound. Not a group I've heard of, but I smiled to think that YOU could have mimicked their first album title... Knee-Deep In The North Sea
I'll go and listen to more of them when I get a chance.
Since we seem to have lost the 'whinge' thread (and this whinge is musical) I'll put this here.
OK - I may accept that poems don't need to rhyme but they are still poetry (grumble, grumble) but when did they figure that 'close' is 'good enough' for song lyrics.
[Voice=Old Goat] In my day [/Voice]
(or a bit before - LOL) they used to stretch the English language and various American accents to give such gems as:
ME / BREATH [which may then be rhymed with ELECTRICITY]
NO's / STONES [which is successfully rhymed with BONES... well done]
I might have thought I was mis-seeing the rhyming sequence until the next verse gives:
FIGHT / SIGHT / RIGHT
Daniel Powter (or his song-writer) needs to go back to class I think

Re: Music
Well, what would you make of this then? I think this sums up what I think about poetry - it can be whatever you want it to be...
Dis poetry
Dis poetry is like a riddim dat drops
De tongue fires a riddim dat shoots like shots
Dis poetry is designed fe rantin
Dance hall style, big mouth chanting,
Dis poetry nar put yu to sleep
Preaching follow me
Like yu is blind sheep,
Dis poetry is not Party Political
Not designed fe dose who are critical.
Dis poetry is wid me when I gu to me bed
It gets into me dreadlocks
It lingers around me head
Dis poetry goes wid me as I pedal me bike
IÕve tried Shakespeare, respect due dere
But did is de stuff I like.
Dis poetry is not afraid of going ina book
Still dis poetry need ears fe hear an eyes fe hav a look
Dis poetry is Verbal Riddim, no big words involved
An if I hav a problem de riddim gets it solved,
IÕve tried to be more romantic, it does nu good for me
So I tek a Reggae Riddim an build me poetry,
I could try be more personal
But youÕve heard it all before,
Pages of written words not needed
Brain has many words in store,
Yu could call dis poetry Dub Ranting
De tongue plays a beat
De body starts skanking,
Dis poetry is quick an childish
Dis poetry is fe de wise an foolish,
Anybody can do it fe free,
Dis poetry is fe yu an me,
DonÕt stretch yu imagination
Dis poetry is fe de good of de Nation,
Chant,
In de morning
I chant
In de night
I chant
In de darkness
An under de spotlight,
I pass thru University
I pass thru Sociology
An den I got a dread degree
In Dreadfull Ghettology.
Dis poetry stays wid me when I run or walk
An when I am talking to meself in poetry I talk,
Dis poetry is wid me,
Below me an above,
Dis poetry's from inside me
It goes to yu
WID LUV.

Re: Music
That's a really good poem. It's got very clever things going on with the rhythm and rhyme (despite what it claims!), not to mention a couple of good jokes, and it gets its point across well without those clever things getting in the way (the same sort of things I aspire to when writing puzzles, in fact!)

Re: Music
I've fell in love with 2 albums over Christmas, both times I heard one song and just decided to buy the whole album and I'm so pleased I did.
The first one is 'The Lions Roar' by First Aid Kit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl5FdvRR4pQ
and the other one is 'Seventeen Days' by 3 Doors Down
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rguhxKEBlr4
They're both really different styles, but I can thoroughly recommend them if you like that type of music.

Re: Music
I love Three Doors Down - now you've reminded me I've located them on Spotify* and am currently listening my way through lots of tracks! I can't really put my finger on why, but they vaguely remind me of some of the early Lynyrd Skynyrd stuff from way back when!
*If you haven't tried Spotify, you should. It's a great, FREE, way to hear new stuff (I just turn it down when the adverts come on!) and I often listen to their recommendations which otherwise would have passed me by. You can also make recommendations to friends (although I haven't quite worked out how to do that yet!!)

Re: Music
Wow. Well that's different! Although that's not totally my kind of music it is one of those things during which dancing around the room IRRESISTIBLE. I can imagine MBH and Strep dancing around their respective living rooms too...! Loved the robot!!
Tonight, if anyone happens to be in the vicinity, OH's STANLEY DEE band are playing at the Horns in Watford. http://www.lemonrock.com/stanleydee First set will be at about 9pm.
Again, Steeley Dan isn't really my "thing", but they are very good musicians and are worth a watch.
EDIT I just realised they now have a website with a link to a Youtube clip. To be honest I don't really think the clip does them justice ( a bit of dodgy BV stuff going on) but you can get the general idea. http://www.stanleydee.co.uk/

Re: Music
Bunny, I love that song by the Lumineers, I can't think where I've heard it though, is it on an advert?
And Scurra, that's a great video. I've never heard of that genre before.

Re: Music
Just got Jools Holland & his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra's "The Golden age of Song" CD. It's got people like Amy Winehouse, Cee Lo Green, Paul Weller, Ruby Turner, Joss Stone, Paulo Nutini on it. The biggest surprise for me was Florence Welch singing My Baby Just Cares For Me - I really dislike Florence and the Machine, yet she's got a great voice on this track! I just found it on youtube...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yItIcOlD_p0

Re: Music
Two of the band members from the band The Feeling went to see D's band (Stanley Dee) play in St Albans last Thursday. This was their "tweet".
I think he was quite chuffed with that.Just saw Stanley Dee (Steely Dan Tribute) absolutely smash it, FINALLY musicians that understand the beauty & subtlety of this band! C&P
