Whoah. I thought it would be hard to top the other one, but this one pushed it pretty close. The arrival of the flame was pretty impressive, but the whole thing was filled with great moments. And Stephen Hawking. Fantastic.

All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

It was pretty crazy, wasn't it? Was Ian Mckellen DELIBERATELY dressed to look rather more like Dumbledore than Prospero?

The idea was great - although a bit complicated at times, and I wondered whether all those non-British spectators would get some of the references......?? - including the gigantic Alson Lapper statue, which was a bit OTT  unless you were familiar with the story behind it.

But the whole show was terrific and I was gripped to the end - especially waiting for the flame to be lit.
It was a pity that the camerawork was so bad, though. I got the impression that they just did not know how to cope with the scale of it, and kept jumping about from one thing to another without really showing anything much in detail. To many long shots and not enough close-up of the performers themselves.

I went to the swimming heats yesterday, and had a day pass to the Excel centre last week for Judo/Sitting VolleyBall/Table Tennis and Powerlifting.

Seen 3 world records broken, so definitely had my moneys worth.

I know there's only a couple of days left, but definitely worth going if you can. Day passes to the Excel were £5 each for 10am to 11pm, and I paid £10 for the swimming.

Would have loved to go, but the timing just didn't work at all for us, with family gathering last weekend and back to schools on Tuesday.

I would also have loved to go but we didn't get any of the Olympic tickes we applied for. Then we were going to try for some Paralympic tickets but with all the uncertainty over K's departure we haven't been able to commit to a day in case that ended up being the day she flew out.

Just watching one of my ex pupils being interviewed, he is the Olympic Super Heavyweight champion (Anthony Joshua - although he used to be called Femi when I knew him!). He was a lovely lad at school, lazy (never did any work in maths - so laid back he was virtually horizontal) but always very pleasant. And boy, could he run fast!!

Well done Femi!! :D
