Anyone out there prepared to try out a game for me please?

#1 Post by Bunnylump » Sun Dec 30, 2012 1:56 pm

I'm trying to write a version of Only Connect "find the connection" round. But I can't tell if they are too easy. Anyone care to see how quickly they can guess the connection please? I'm working on them as we speak and have made three connections so far...the rest might come later.

Have you been inundated with offers by PM?

If not, I could have a go but it would have to be later this evening. We have been out all day and I've only just sat down for a cup of tea, let alone thought about getting supper started.

I've been torturing a very kind passing giraffe and also a kind passing ladybird with the find the connection round. They've had the really hard versions (which I am modifing a bit accordingly - thank you very much ladies, for your input). I now have a "find the fourth thing in the series" round which should be a bit easier and am just about to have a go at the missing vowels round. So if anyone is up for trying anything out, then give me a shout when you're free / sufficiently rested!!

Sounds like you're sorted then. :D
I probably wouldn't have been much help anyway as i sometimes struggle with them.

I was struggling because I didn't know any of the things she was referring to let alone what the connections were.

Got all the films and stars I think.

On the sports - in the first one you seem to have an 'and' between the sport and the equipment but not on the second one. Or am I mistaken on that? :?
There seems to be an E left in the fourth one. And I'm not entirely sure about the last one. I think I know the sport but not all the equipment.

Looking at the songs, stuck on a couple.

Find the connection.doc
(74 KiB) Downloaded 121 times
Just in case anyone cares, these are the connection rounds

These are the find the fourth in a series round (which I'm obviously giving one at a time as well)
FOURTH IN SEQUENCE all three clues.doc
(1.2 MiB) Downloaded 115 times
And connecting walls I have shamelessly nicked off the Only Connect website.

My favourite round is the missing vowels one. It's usually the only one where I can actually get most of the answers before the teams do! (Much to N's annoyance  )

Oh, BTW, these were the intended answers
Connections round

1. Famous toupee wearers

2, All went through initiation ceremonies (Nemo swam through the "ring of fire" (bubbles in the tank, Alex Drake in Ashes to Ashes had to have her arse stamped before she could join the CID, Homer Simpson "Crossing the Desert" (where a blindfolded Homer was struck repeatedly in the behind with wooden paddles) and then, "The Unblinking Eye"...
Homer: "Hey, did you ever notice that Crossing the Desert is a lot like The Unblinking Eye? And it's exactly like The Wreck of the Hesperus".And then the final trial: "The Paddling of the Swollen Ass... with Paddles!"
Bradley Wiggins recently went through the initiation ceremony of KINGHTHOOD. )

3. All use lowercase letters- dinnerladies in main title, Bananas in opening and closing credits, MacDonalds in "i'm lovin' it", e.e. cummings in name and some poems.

4. All had to have their pronounciation explained - For the first third or so of Mel Brooks's Young Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein consistently corrects people's pronounciation of his surname: "Fraun-kon-shteen." This causes his assistant Igor to insist on "Eye-gor", and calling him "Froderick" instead of Frederick. Ultimately Frankenstein accepts the traditional way of pronouncing his name when he takes up the family trade.
Lynyrd Skynyrd has an album called "Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd"
Hermione’s correction for the levitation charm In Harry Potter: It's "Levi-O-sa", not "Levio-Sa!"
The new cider—er, cidre—from Stella Artois is pronounced SEE-DRA.
"C'est Cidre, Not Cider" .

5.All use a question mark -
Episode 46 of Lost was titled ? In the scene where Eko goes to the other hatch, there's a giant "?" on the ground.
The Fourth through Seventh Doctors all sported costumes with a red question mark motif (usually on the shirt collars, except for the Seventh Doctor—it appeared on his pullover and in the shape of his umbrella handle)
The standard emoticon for confusion is a colon and question mark, thus: :?
In some languages, such as Spanish, typography since the 18th century has required opening and closing question marks, as in "¿Qué hora es?" (What time is it?); an interrogative sentence or phrase begins with an inverted question mark (¿) and ends with the question mark (?)

6. All had hypnotising eyes.

Fourth in sequence round

1,(that is the key of E/picture denoting AGE/ missing word is USAGE) each time you add two letters to the beginning to make a new word) Answer is therefore SAusage.

2. Astronauts who have walked on the moon 4th, 3rd, 2nd then 1st - ARMSTONG and ALDRIN

3.8 MAM (maids a milking 7 SAS swans a swimming 6 GAL geese a laying so the final thing is 5GR

4. Last 4 Harry Potter books in the series, so the last picture would be of Harry / Hermione etc. on top of a pile of treasure.

5. All from the Very Hungry Caterpillar. So next one is SUNDAY ONE NICE GREEN LEAF.

6.Letters with DESCENDERS in alphabetical order. Next one is q.
