Where am I?
Here's another new game to try. We post a brief fact (could be historical, amusing,a picture or whatever you like, even a puzzle about the name) about a place in the UK. We have to identify it. Then the next person posts a new one. Simples.
This should be an easy one to get the ball rolling...
Numbers of people were once found here.

Re: Where am I?
The bit below is a clue (of sorts)!! I fully anticipate that the jester should get this one... Here's a better picture.

aah. I think I know where it is now. I remember those puzzles too.
But you may have to wait until tomorrow for a new one from me. My brain is too tired at the moment.

Re: Where am I?
Well, it certainly sounds like you are on the right track there with that comment! For those of you who are still mystified, the answer was Portmeiron, which of course is where The Prisoner was filmed (hence the reference to numbers - Patrick McGoohan being "Number Six".) For anyone who is ever in the area, it's well worth a visit. It's modelled on an Italian village, but has bizarre façades with nothing behind them, strange, unexpected statues, weird perspectives - buildings which are actually tiny, but from a distance look like they are huge. This is all set in gardens by the sea, filled with rhododendrons. When I stayed near there with a group of friends (years ago) I was in a mill cottage which was originally owned by the creator, Clough Williams-Ellis. In nearby land, we found little "trial" buildings, such as a mock ruined castle, which again, from a distance looked real, but when you got near it, it was actually tiny, only just big enough to get inside!!
OK LAT, over to you. You can clue your place any way you like.

Re: Where am I?
Yes I must admit the second picture was much more helpful than the first one. And then the written clue made sense. I've never been but would like to visit.
Here's a photo I took recently while wandering round some gardens. It's not brilliant but hopefully you can make it out. Where was I?

Re: Where am I?
What a lovely statue, I've never seen that. However, having guessed at what it's depicting, I've done some research and found it at Guildford Castle. I think that deserves a visit.
OK how about this.
I'm out shopping with a naughty ten year old and a man who has his pillow filled with rubble. Where am I?

Re: Where am I?
The gardens there are really pretty. I knew about the statue but only actually visited it for the first time yesterday evening. (Hence the not great photo as the sun was fairly low in the sky).
I shall have to think about your next one though.

If it was an 11 year old and a beard filled with rubble I'd have said Diagon Alley

I'm guessing that she's buying a cake.

And mine! Over to the jester then.
Re: Where am I?
Are you going to tell us the answer?
Re: Where am I?
The last one was DUNDEE (home of DC Thompson, who publish the Beano - Dennis the Menace - and the Dandy - Desperate Dan.)
It's where the lawnmower was invented... (there's one on display in this building.)

Re: Where am I?
Oh, I agree it was Dundee but I thought it was because of the statues of Minnie the Minx and Desperate Dan there.

Re: Where am I?
NOTE: ANOTHER CLUE HAS BEEN POSTED ABOVE. DON'T MISS IT!!
Yes, it was.
But Scurra's right too because the town is renowned for being the home of both of them. And of one of my husband's supposed ancestors, who was the person Desperate Dan was based on.
