Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Oh, Sparkout - I'm sure she will have a wonderful experience. YOU, on the other hand, will probably worry about her for every second she is there. I think that's the entire purpose of having children, to give you grey hair to make you look more distinguished...(not that I look distinguished, mine is growing in a "Cruella de Ville" streak at the front. My hairdresser refuses to dye it all out because she thinks it looks funky. I'm not so sure... )
The thing which always strikes me when I end up in a conversation like this is that when my children were young, I couldn't understand why older people kept talking about their grown up children as if they were still such a worry. Now I understand - however old they get you still fret for them. I'm pretty sure Wulfruna would agree!!

An eletric bike. The one I'm getting can be used in 3 different modes. As a normal pedal bike, power assisted for those inclines and total power. That bit scares me. I cant imagine a bike where you can take your feet off the pedals completely.LAT wrote:What's an e-bike?
I like the grey hair makes you look distinguished Bunny. It always make me think of a one-liner. Why are are men told that grey hair distinguishes them? Because it distinguishes them from the young men.....

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Being a bit hacked off because I was supposed to be doing some more of my Ridgeway walk, and it got rained off.
However, I was just laughing at my son. This week UCL have been hosting a massive conference to do with biology - they have had fascinating speakers from around the world, including several nobel prize winners. There have been activities all week and opportunities to learn and discuss new groundbreaking techniques. But what was the bit my son thought was "really cool"? He got to take a load of bigwigs to London Zoo!! His next most cool thing was that he's been able to get all his breakfasts, lunches and dinners all week for free, and free drink. I do love his priorities!!

I actually doubt if he has asked an intelligent question all week...he seems to operate on charm alone.

Wonderful!
I did love the interview with Laura Robson yesterday when they showed part of the match she had just played - she broke off from what she was saying at one point to say "oh, that wasn't a bad stroke!" She seemed so natural.
I'm off there on Wednesday with a certain Rag doll. t's the first time I've ever been so I'm quite excited.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
...Out for my niece's hen day / night. We went for lunch at one of her bridesmaid's houses - and she was presented with the bunting which we'd all had a hand in making (we were each asked to make a bunting flag, which we all decorated with something which meant something to us about Ali. For example, I printed a picture of me on my wedding day giving the 2 year old Ali a big hug on mine and sewed rosebuds all around it. K's one had a cupcake with a case made out of music notes (they both share a passion for baking and music). My brother had made a picture of a guitar out of marquetry. The combined finished article looked REALLY good, and I could tell she was touched. Her bridesmaids had made a "Mr and Mrs" style quiz which was fun. Then we went to St Albans, for a pampering session at Lush. Then we went to The Snug for lots of random cocktails, and eventually ended up in O Neill's singing to things like Bohemian Rhapsody and Teenage Dirtbag at the tops of our voices.
Meanwhile, the "boys" were kayaking up the thames, then going for a brewery visit, then to Ronnie Scott's.
We're quite broke now.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Been finding out what those boys got up to yesterday. For a start, apparently in the brewery visit the person giving the talk about how the beer was made was struck dumb when he had tried to sound knowledgeable about the type of yeast used, only to found out that Dibble had, that morning, been on a yeast symposium (like you do!!) Also, apparently the groom to be had been dressed up in a captain's hat to go in the kayak, but then had to negotiate the Gay Pride march (interesting...?)

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
.. cooking for OH's birthday tomorrow. Just for once I decided to cut back on the food because I always have too much.
Just this time every couple I've invited have asked in the last couple of hours if they could bring along another couple who are acquaintances of ours but not close friends. Of course they can. OH has just gone to Tesco.........

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Isn't that just totally typical?
I have massive overcatering off to a fine T. I always do it, can't help myself. I think I could usually feed most of my street when I cater for half a dozen people. And my massive cakes are pretty legendary, too...(not because they are particularly fantastic, just because they are ALWAYS massive!!) I also have this sort of "siege" mentality when I am buying food for Christmas. As if the shops are never going to open again...

Wot? And you didn't pop in for a cuppa? Outrageous. You could have taken a party bag of asbestos and chloroform back with you.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
...........well not today but Wednesday I was at Wimbledon with a friendly ragdoll. We had a wonderful day and saw some great tennis.
Looby had prepared a lovely couscous salad and I took along some wine - rather more enjoyable than the bottle of water and chocolate biscuit I saw the lady next to me tucking in to! And Murray certainly kept us on the edges of our seats!
At the end of the day we watched part of an invitation doubles match between 4 former players (including Philippoussis and Ferreira) which was really amusing. At one time two balls were served at the same time. And on another occasion they played up close to the net hitting it forward and back and then running round the other side of the net - they all kept going in a circle for quite a while. After that the poor umpire just shrugged his shoulders as he had no idea which pair to award the point!
