Just got a message from one of my ex pupils, who I worked with for eight years. He had a statement of special educational needs, and when I first got him couldn't even write a line of writing independently. He's just got a 2:2 honours degree!!

So chuffed. And actually, I'm so chuffed that he thought to get back to me and let me know after all these years. THIS is what it's all about. I've put up with an appalling few weeks recently, but now that has all melted away. THIS is what makes it worthwhile.

Just got back from visits to fetch results from two schools.

Kingsley got A*AAB and will be studying Music at Durham
Fernando got AAAA in his AS levels.
Lally has no results this time but is very proud of her siblings.

Yes and relieved. Because of the modular system K was pretty much guaranteed a place at Durham because of the marks she already had in the bank. (She needed to get 3% on her Business studies exam, and a D in music) but even so I don't like to count chickens, and they always come home and say the exams have gone badly. I think I was more worried about F, because he is more emotional / highly strung.

I know what you mean about the relief and not wanting to count chickens, especially after the nightmare K had when one of her marks came back wrong at first.

Laughing out loud at the idea of K getting a 'D' for music

Head of Music said that if she got less than 95% for her composition he would eat his hat. I was quite tempted to make him a hat shaped cake, but she got full marks for it, so it would have been a waste!

K heard from her old House mistress whose two daughters got results today. The eldest is also off to Durham university and the younger one also got all A's for AS levels I think. Sounds very similar to the giraffe family.

My friend's children have done well, Jill's son (who is extremely dyslexic) has got on his boat design degree course at Southampton Solent, and Janet's youngest just got into Sheffield to do Maths and Computing. But do spare a thought for all those kids who have tried REALLY hard with their AS / A levels and DIDN'T get what they hoped for, like one of my nieces.
