balls of life
I think that probably sums up your current situation nicely.

I've bin...
machine dyeing loads of fabric, because the colour my daughter wants for her wedding doesn't appear to exist in the known universe. Oh, and getting back from the shop to find half a mouse and all of the mouse guts on the hall floor. Nice. :x

You mean the attack tortoise is out of hibernation again?

The attack tortoise is, indeed, out of hibernation again.  However, he is more likely to attack a cucumber (or sometimes my feet, which he mistakes for cucumber!!)

Worrying about N's aunt who is in her 90's and lives in a house backing onto the Thames near Staines.
Yesterday the river had already risen over the steps down from the garden onto the riverbank and into the garden.
I gather she was getting breeze blocks to try to raise some of her heavy furniture off the floor.

I do hope she is OK. Worrying at that age.

On that note, Colin said if we were flooded he would turn off all the power and move upstairs and go an get a petrol generator. Erm, how is he planning on going to get it??????? Dingbat!!

He would need to be careful. They seem to be implying that that little 7 year old that died (in Chertsey?) was carbon monoxide from a pump.

Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.

We have no water. Well, none in the taps, plenty everywhere else!

I got so soaked just going from school to my car at lunchtime I had to go home and change my trousers!! And it sounds suspiciously like the roof of the three storey block is about to be blown off - it was making an ominous mooing noise!!

My future son-in-law is having a hell of a time at work at the moment. He is an engineer for UK power networks, and is getting called out (often overnight) because the power network is struggling so badly with all the water underground, high winds bringing down power cables etc. Last weekend he was called out at 5pm on Saturday, got home at 4am, then was called out again at 3pm Sunday until 3am Monday. Then had to work on Monday. Over Christmas, they were having so much trouble getting people to cover the problems over the festive season he was offered £2000 for one day. He was so tired that he refused!!

That is what S had to do in his first job out of university. He was a management trainee with Southern Electric, but when there was a big storm and he had to go out as assistant to one of the line crews. He was gone for a couple of days at a time, and I remember going out the one time to take him some sandwiches and a flask. I was driving round the countryside asking if anyone had seen a man up a pole. It was before mobile phones, so I had no way of contacting him and only a vague idea of where he was. I did find him eventually.

Today, making pashminas. But because the colour doesn't exist in the known universe, I had to MAKE fringes for the ends of each by sewing and knotting embroidery thread!! Quite pleased with my efforts though! :D I can honestly say that they are UNIQUE - hand made from hand dyed material!

It's a case of having to. K has set her mind / heart set on having her bridesmaids in this particular colour, and there ISN'T anything in it. Hence Mum gets to to cutting, sewing and sticking.

We also went out and bought an Apple Mac computer. About time, our PC is 12 years old!!  Not that I have a clue how to use it, mind... And then I forced my husband to buy me lunch. First time we've been out anywhere on Valentine's day in about 20 years, but hey.

Well, this is what I HAVEN'T mostly been doing today, but...

was SUPPOSED to be going to Godalming with K for a hair and make up trial for her wedding. But they have no electricity due to flooding, so we can't. Later this afternoon, we were SUPPOSED to be getting the train into London to go to the Hint Hunt. And there are trees down all over the line at Apsley and Hemel Hempstead, so we are going to have to drive in. Ever got the feeling that somebody's got it in for you??? What next? Plague of locusts?

It's all your fault for buying an Apple computer. :P
