Have a great time down here in the south. We are of course mortally offended that you're coming down here and not spending time with us.

Presumably you have your visa duly stamped and all the vaccinations as well as a crash course in the language?

I'm going away this weekend. Not a relaxing holiday, its a Duke of Edinburgh expedition which means a weekend of hiking, camping and cooking on a tiny stove!

Not when I've got a rucksack about the size and weight of a small hippo to carry!

What you should invest in is a small hippo to carry you and the ruck sack. That would be far more stylish.

but that doesn't mean "bad" does it? Have a lot of fun. You can make it fun if you remember to - or just forget that it isn't, and then it will be, by itself.

Just got back, I'm incredibly tired. I didn't get very much sleep at all because it was just so cold! The food wasn't as bad as it could have been and I've got a couple of nice blisters to show for it. However this was just the practice one and I've got another to look forward in 5 weeks time!

Well done Kingsley, glad you survived!
Five weeks for the blisters to heal, but with luck it might be a bit warmer then.

I hope so. It was dark by 7 o'clock and although we were told to try and stay in our tents we had to go out for the tiolet and to get drinks so we were shivering all night! The walking wasn't too bad abd there were lots of lovely views.

No drinks, no toilets
Hope you had a good time Kingsley- and that there weren't any huge great bulls in the fields you crossed- they are usually huge BEFORE they stand up.

You need to get some proper blister plasters.
If you put them on as soon as you begin to feel a rub they are brilliant. They also work if you have allowed a blister to form but still have to put your boots on and walk the next day.
Never be embarrassed about making the others wait while you attend to your feet. It would be a much worse problem if you had such a huge blister that you could walk at all.

We stopped a couple of times and all got our feet out to check for blisters!
