Today I have been in London. I had an appointment in the City and we then went on to have another look at the poppies in the moat at the Tower of London, now that it is virtually full. It was heaving there, possibly partly because of half-term at schools but a large proportion of the people were just adult pairs/groups.
We then intended to visit the exhibition of Lego sculptures

but couldn't get tickets until over an hour after we got there (the website was down when I tried to pre-book!) so gave up that idea and went to buy N a walking stick for swishing nettles etc out of the way when we go on our country walks. Absolutely fascinating shop that cut them to fit and add the appropriate tip (metal/rubber for country/town) while you wait.
Despite the dismal weather I did find myself half wishing I worked up in town as there is always so much to see from the quirky sights to the impressive buildings, old and new jostling together. But I'm sure the commuting would pall after a while.
One thing that did amuse me though, was the guard on the train as we pulled into Waterloo. Reminding us not to leave anything behind, he exhorted us to check under our seats and on the luggage racks for hats, coats, bags and small children.

...Cooking around 50 sausages and 12 baking potatoes, plus two massive vats of home made soup. Then Dibble and Manon arrived, carved pumpkins, made a guy (we called him Pete because he had a photo of Pete Townsend on his head) and put glowing balloons all the way up the garden. Then all the rest of the family arrived, bearing various yummy gifts, including home made peanut brittle millionaire shortbread and churos. We had a big bonfire, fireworks, followed by blindfold jelly feeding, blindfold swinging jam pancake eating and apple bobbing. It was completely hysterical, haven't laughed so hard for a very long time. The house looks like a bomb has hit it and I'm covered in jelly but hey ho.

We did something similar to the swinging jam pancakes once. It's like apple bobbing only backwards. We did chunks of swiss roll. Only this was on Brownie Pack Holiday at Halloween. We had lots left over. You have to use your imagination!!!
