So, who's been avidly watching Glastonbury? Arcade Fire and Elbow were both brilliant, but I'm currently watching Bryan Ferry and it's a bit like watching Paul Mc Cartney at the Queen's jubilee - a bit cringe worthy...as, indeed, was Blondie. Sometimes, singers need to realise that the vocal cords start to change as one gets older, and SOMETIMES it's just best to quit whilst one is ahead!! Having said that, Robert Plant was surprisingly good (well, once you got past the whole trouser scenario!!)

Our friend's sister was a primary school teacher, and she used to tell the children stories about how "Norman the Gnome" lived in a big oak tree in the school grounds. Unfortunately, there was a big storm, and the tree was blown down. The children were devastated, because they thought Norman might have died.

I'm very pleased to see that Norman has since started up a Facebook page, to let everyone know what he's been up to. Including making records and videos, it seems.

When my teenage daughter says to me "listen to this song, you're going to love it", I usually put on a brave face, have a listen and try to find the most tactful way to tell her it's not quite my thing (her favorite is One Direction, so I'm sure you can imagine what kind of songs I usually have to listen to).
But, not this time!
Yesterday she said it and got me listening to Hozier - never heard of him before - but absolutely love his album, not one dud song on it.

I'm now listening to him on Spotify. I have heard Take me to the Church played quite a lot on the radio, but the others are sounding good too. Good call.

I regularly get suggestions for things I might like from Dibble. He's like me, and likes a whole range of music from all different genres.It was SUCH a relief when he moved on from liking things like S Club 7 (when he was about 10) and K passed her Spice Girls phase at 13!

Here's something really off- beat but interesting. They are called Portico Quartet and use a little known instrument called the hang-drum, which has a really eerie, compelling sound. The music is built up gradually (be patient) in layers and is really different and mesmerising.

That's an interesting piece of music. I find myself liking some parts and not others. I love the bit with the saxophone, but struggle with the part at the end with all the clashing notes. I'm sure there's a technical term for it. I've heard this type of music before (the clashing bit), one that comes to mind is one from Fleet Foxes - The Shrine/An Argument - An Argument describes it perfectly, as the instruments just seem to be fighting with one another.

Just in case any of you mad people happen to be in the vicinity of Aston Clinton, D's other band (The Classics) are playing at the Oak tonight at 7pm. I'll be there and it would be fab if anyone else fancied it. Apparently the pub is doing a hog roast, fish and chips and things like that if you're hungry. Oh, and for the drinkers amongst you there is also a beer and cider festival.

Just watching The Who finish off Glastonbury, And I have to say the comment "And as for who is the biggest f****** rock star ever? That surely must be Elvis!" What a masterful poke in the ribs for the frankly dreadful Kanye West! Brilliant.

It seems to be being reported in rather a different way in various different places. Some newspapers appear to be reporting that he implied that it was HIM that was the "biggest rock star in the world." But I DEFINITELY heard either him or Roger Daltry adding "I thought that was Elvis." I'm also pretty sure that he swore.

Either way, there is no question that Kanye West has no more valid claim to that title than anyone else. Seriously, what a puffed up little so and so!
