Giraffe - if you want some more of these and still can't use the link, give me a shout and I'll download another one or two.

Thanks. I think I just printed another one off. The link works in Chrome, but Chrome is just so slow and awkward to use, that I mainly can't be bothered, but I had it open to look at another link earlier.

This is very clever. It's only a couple of minutes but it's a lovely performance.

(Watch the two linked videos afterwards too.)

Can anyone remember where the link is for the journey through space in relative time that someone posted ages ago please? I was mentioning it to a colleague and now can't find it!

I've been playing 'Little Alchemy' which is a fun little game - you start with 4 elements (earth, air, fire, water) and combine them to create more.
Some combinations are quite obvious (fire and water make steam, fire and human makes fireman), others not so (sky and cheese makes moon :-) )
There's 510 elements to make.

Nice little freebie. (and gives me something to do while waiting for Diggy's energy to recharge)

Thank you for that, it made a welcome diversion from the digging (which is now starting to wear exceedingly thin!)

Yes it has diverted me from a VERY boring mine. (Been on it for a couple of days and no end in sight)

Yes, it's quite good fun. And I think I understand it, unlike Diggy which I don't understand!

I must admit I got a list of possible elements and when I get a new element I scan through to see if I can work out which others I can make from it. The nerd one was quite fun to find, I'll admit :-)

I found the nerd by accident, but have used a list to find some of the others. I have currently found 187

It's very similar to a mobile game called Doodle God (I believe there are others in that series) which does much the same sort of thing but with a sort of quest structure attached to it (and flashier graphics.) But the scale of this one is definitely impressive, and some of the combinations are definitely amusing.

These are REALLY weird. For the first one, you need to sort of know the Bee Gees song "Stayin' Alive" (a little) to get the effect. It's a song turned into a piano midi file, and your brain fills in the gaps so that you can hear the words (which aren't there!)

And this is an example of the McGurk effect.

This one is different syllables put together in an audio track. Different people hear different words. For the first one I hear "well done" and for the second one I hear "filter", third I get "blow down" whereas Dibble and Manon heard entirely different things.

Was there supposed to be a third link in there?

Anyway, that first one is hilarious. I'm not sure it's true that the lyrics aren't there, precisely, because a voice is just a waveform like anything else, but it's certainly interesting that the midi piano reproduced those waveforms well enough to be just about comprehensible in amongst the chaos.
